Hauler Hero vs CurbWaste: which software fits a roll-off dumpster company?

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 6 min read

Short answer: Hauler Hero and CurbWaste are both waste hauling software, meaning cloud platforms that run orders, dispatch, billing and driver apps for trash and dumpster companies. CurbWaste puts its roll-off focus on order entry, three dispatch views, live container inventory and QuickBooks billing. Hauler Hero covers commercial, residential, roll-off, municipal and liquid waste in one platform and adds AI tools for routes and customer chat. Neither shows a public price list as of November 2026, so ask both for a written quote and test them on your real week of orders.

You run roll-off dumpsters and want to know which of these two waste software platforms handles dispatch, can tracking and billing without a pile of workarounds.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

What are Hauler Hero and CurbWaste?

Hauler Hero is a waste hauling software platform for private and municipal haulers. It handles route planning, billing, customer management, a driver tablet app and reporting in one connected system. It serves commercial, residential, roll-off, municipal and liquid waste operators.

CurbWaste is waste management software that describes itself as built by haulers for haulers. It offers order management, dispatch, inventory tracking, automated invoicing, a driver app for iOS and Android, and embedded online ordering for your website. It has a dedicated roll-off use case page, and it also covers commercial and residential work.

Both are specialist tools. A general field service tool such as Jobber or Housecall Pro (job management software for home service trades) is built around a tech visiting a house, not a truck dropping a container and coming back for it a week later. That is why roll-off companies usually look at waste-specific tools first. For the general category, see my guide to field service management software.

What does a roll-off company need from software?

Roll-off work is different from route work. A commercial or residential hauler empties the same bins on a set day. A roll-off company takes on-request orders: drop a 20 yard container, swap it, haul it and weigh it at a dump site. The core needs are:

  • Order entry that captures details: placement notes, photos, preferred times, permits.
  • Dispatch by job, not by route: a driver gets a drop, a pick up and a swap, in an order that changes during the day.
  • Container tracking: where each can is, how long it has been on site, and which are free for the next order.
  • Rental day billing: charges that start when a container sits past its free days.
  • Job-level invoicing: price by container size, haul, dump fee and extras.
  • Customer self-service: online ordering and a portal so fewer calls reach your office.

Dispatch

CurbWaste leans into dispatch flexibility. It offers three views (list, map and a drag-and-drop board), live driver tracking and push notifications to drivers, and it says automated customer texts save about 10 minutes per move. Those are vendor claims, so test them against your own day.

Hauler Hero pairs drag-and-drop dispatch with map-based route building and live driver visibility. Its Hero AI analytics tool aims to optimize route sequences automatically. That helps more if you also run fixed commercial or residential routes beside your roll-off work.

Container tracking

This is the center of a roll-off business, because an idle or lost container is lost revenue. CurbWaste describes real-time asset visibility on a map, a count of days on site, projections of future inventory so you know when a can must come back, and automated rental day fees. It also lets drivers track serialized inventory through the driver app.

Hauler Hero describes container tracking as part of its roll-off offer. Its public pages say less about inventory projection and rental day automation, so ask for those in a demo and see them work on your own container list.

Billing and portals

CurbWaste ties billing to QuickBooks, a popular accounting tool, so invoices sync without double entry. It also supports recurring billing templates and customer-specific pricing. Hauler Hero handles payment processing for cards, ACH and checks, autopay and recurring billing, batch invoicing and flexible billing profiles across service lines. Customer stories on its site describe cutting billing time by about half, but those are customer accounts, not a promise.

Hauler Hero says it integrates with QuickBooks and certain other systems, so ask how deep that link goes. If you want customers to order from your own website, CurbWaste lists embedded online ordering as a standard feature.

A worked example: a 6-truck roll-off company

These figures are made up. You run 6 trucks, 150 containers and about 40 orders a day. Ten percent of your containers sit past the free days, and you miss half the rental fees because nobody checks.

  • 150 containers at 10 percent is 15 cans over their free days.
  • If the rental fee is $10 a day and you miss half, that is about $75 a day, or $2,250 over 30 days.

The point is not the figure. It is that a tool which flags days on site and bills rental days automatically can pay for itself. In your demo, ask each vendor to show exactly how a rental fee ends up on an invoice.

How do I run a fair demo?

  1. Send both vendors the same 20 real orders from last week, including a swap, a reschedule and a canceled drop.
  2. Ask each to enter them live and dispatch them to one driver.
  3. Ask to see the container map and the over-days list.
  4. Ask to see the invoice, with rental days, and how it reaches QuickBooks.
  5. Ask what data migration, training and support cost, and who does the work.
  6. Ask for two customer references with a fleet your size.

When does a custom layer help?

If you pick one platform, you may still have gaps: your own pricing rules, a landfill ticket import, a permit tracker or a dashboard your owner wants. Ripping out the software to fix that is rarely worth it. A small custom layer can sit on top of it, reading its data and adding what is missing, so you keep the main system and own the extra piece. For a trucking-side view of dispatch tools, see my trucking software guide, and for adding AI to the pieces that matter, see AI for small business.

Pick Hauler Hero or CurbWaste?

  • Pick CurbWaste if: roll-off is most of your business and you want container inventory, rental day billing and a website ordering widget in the core product.
  • Pick Hauler Hero if: you mix roll-off with commercial, residential or municipal routes, or you want AI help on routing and customer chat.
  • Pick neither yet if: you run a handful of containers and a spreadsheet still works. Wait until double entry costs you real time.

Need something completely custom?

Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes none of these fit, and what you need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. How I'd approach this

I would put both vendors through the same test week before comparing price. Roll-off software comes down to three things: how fast you can enter and dispatch an order, how clearly you can see every container, and whether rental days land on the invoice without anyone remembering. Score each vendor on those, then ask about onboarding and contract length.

Because neither company publishes pricing, ask for the total first-year cost in writing, including setup, training and payment processing fees. Then compare that with what your office and drivers spend on workarounds today. If the gap is small, a tool plus a light custom add-on will serve you better than switching again in two years.

Questions people ask

What is CurbWaste?

CurbWaste is cloud waste management software for haulers. It covers orders, dispatch, inventory tracking, automated invoicing, a driver app and online ordering, with separate use cases for roll-off, commercial and residential work.

What does Hauler Hero cost?

Hauler Hero does not show a public price list on its site as of November 2026. You request a demo and a quote. Ask for setup, training and payment processing fees in writing.

What does CurbWaste cost?

CurbWaste also asks you to request a demo for pricing as of November 2026. Ask what is included in onboarding and whether the QuickBooks sync costs extra.

Which is better for roll-off dumpsters?

CurbWaste describes the more roll-off specific feature set on its public pages, including days on site, inventory projection and rental day fees. Hauler Hero also covers roll-off and adds a wider set of waste lines. Test both on your own orders.

Can a general field service tool run a dumpster business?

It can handle quotes, invoices and scheduling, but it does not track containers or rental days well. Roll-off companies usually need a waste-specific tool. See my field service management software guide for the general options.

Do they work with QuickBooks?

CurbWaste lists a QuickBooks integration, and Hauler Hero says it integrates with QuickBooks and certain other systems. In each demo, ask how invoices, payments and customer changes move between the two, and what is one-way.
