How do I link eBay to Shopify so listings and stock stay in sync?

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 6 min read

Short answer: Yes, Shopify works with eBay through an app. Shopify, an ecommerce platform for running an online store, makes its own app for this called Shopify Marketplace Connect, formerly Codisto. It lists your products on eBay and syncs orders, stock and tracking. As of November 2026 it is free to install, the first 50 synced orders a month are free, and extra orders carry a 1% fee capped at $99 a month. Paid apps from other makers also exist. Use only one connector app at a time.

You sell on Shopify and want eBay listings, orders and stock to stay in step without double entry.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

The short version

You connect eBay to Shopify through an app that reads your Shopify products, creates eBay listings from them, brings eBay orders into Shopify, and sends tracking and stock changes back. You have three real choices: Shopify's own app, a paid app from another maker, or your own system built around the APIs (the doorways programs use to talk to each platform). I will cover each, then the limits and the fixes.

Shopify Marketplace Connect in detail

Marketplace Connect connects your Shopify product catalog to marketplaces and lets you manage listings, orders and inventory in your Shopify admin. According to Shopify's help pages:

  • There is no charge for connecting and listing your products, for unlimited manual order imports, or for automatically syncing your first 50 marketplace orders a month. For more synced orders, Shopify points you to its pricing page. The app listing says 1% per additional synced order, capped at $99 a month. Check the current terms before you rely on that.
  • Imported orders appear in your Shopify orders as if they came from your store, with the marketplace name in the Channel field. When you fulfill them, tracking goes back to the marketplace.
  • You list products in single edit mode, bulk edit mode, or attribute mapping mode, which lets you customize how all products appear on a marketplace. You can also link listings you already have on eBay to Shopify products.
  • Your store needs a payment provider, shipping rates for the countries you sell to, and a verified seller account on eBay.
  • eBay, Amazon, Walmart and Target Plus require each product to have a unique identifier such as a GTIN, UPC, MPN or EAN (standard product codes, like the barcode number on a package). If your goods have none, such as private label items, you must apply for an exemption from the marketplace.

How to connect eBay, step by step

  1. Check you have a verified eBay seller account, with your shipping and store policies set up on eBay.
  2. If another connector app is installed, disconnect and uninstall it first. Shopify says to have only one marketplace connector app connected, to avoid data conflicts.
  3. Install Shopify Marketplace Connect from the Shopify App Store.
  4. In your admin, go to Apps, then Marketplace Connect, and click Connect account for eBay. Follow the eBay sign-in prompts.
  5. Link existing eBay listings to your Shopify products before you create new ones, so you do not make duplicates.
  6. List a handful of products, place a test order, and check that stock changes on both sides.

Known limits

  • One connector at a time. Two sync apps writing stock to the same listings will fight each other.
  • Product identifiers. Missing GTINs and UPCs are a very common reason a listing will not publish.
  • Etsy. If you were hoping to link Etsy through the same app, Shopify says new Etsy connections cannot be made with Marketplace Connect at this time. Existing Etsy connections continue to work. See my guide on checking Etsy and Shopify data with AI if you are in that spot.
  • Reviews are mixed. On the Shopify App Store, the app shows a 4.1 rating from 2,134 reviews as of November 2026. Most reviewers praise it, and the store's summary says merchants find it reliable once configured. But several recent reviewers describe broken syncs, wrong prices and slow support, and one with a catalog over 200 items says they plan to move. Treat that as a warning to test with a few products before you move your whole catalog.
  • eBay rules still apply. eBay's category requirements, item specifics and policies are eBay's, not Shopify's. The app can only pass on what your product data holds.

Fixes when sync is not working

These are the problems I would check, in order. The first four come straight from Shopify's help pages.

  1. More than one connector app. Uninstall the extra one.
  2. Missing product identifier. Add the GTIN, UPC, MPN or EAN, or apply to eBay for an exemption.
  3. Store setup gaps. Confirm you have a payment provider and shipping rates for the target country.
  4. Missing required details. Some data eBay needs is not part of a normal Shopify product. Use attribute mapping or metafields to supply it.
  5. Stock tracking off in Shopify. If a variant does not track quantity, no sync tool has a number to read. Craftybase, an inventory app for makers, makes this point in its setup guide.
  6. Mismatched SKUs. Sync tools commonly match products across platforms by SKU, the stock code you give each variant. Different codes mean the listings cannot see each other.
  7. Continue selling when out of stock. If Shopify keeps selling at zero while eBay has a hard cap, the two disagree about stock.
  8. Manual edits. Changing quantities directly on eBay while the app also writes them is a good way to create drift.

If none of that fixes it, use the in-app chat for Marketplace Connect, which is the support route Shopify points to.

Multiple stores or multiple eBay accounts

The Marketplace Connect listing advertises unlimited marketplace account connections, and the DPL listing says its plans support multiple eBay accounts and marketplaces. That covers one Shopify store feeding several eBay accounts. Several Shopify stores feeding one eBay account is a different case, and I would ask the app maker in writing before you build around it. Whatever you pick, decide which store owns the stock number. If two stores each think they own it, they will both oversell.

If you run several seller accounts, my guide on running several store or marketplace seller accounts covers the account side of this.

Keeping stock right when eBay is one of many channels

An app syncs two places well. It gets shaky when you add a third and fourth, such as Amazon, a wholesale portal or a physical shop. Shopify's own developer docs describe inventory management apps as the layer that centralizes inventory and order data so merchants can sell across several channels and warehouses. That is the idea to hold on to: one place owns the number, and every channel is a window onto it.

Signs your setup has outgrown a sync app:

  • You fix oversells weekly.
  • You sell bundles or kits made from several stock items.
  • You make products to order or in batches.
  • You have more than one stock location.
  • Two apps both write to the same listings.

At that point a small system that holds one stock count and pushes it to every channel is worth a look. My inventory management system guide and Amazon FBA inventory guide explain the building blocks, and the ecommerce tool stack guide shows where inventory sits among your other tools.

How I'd approach this

If eBay is a side channel with fewer than a few hundred products, I would start with Shopify's own app, because it is free at low volume and keeps everything in your admin. I would link existing listings first, test with ten products, and watch stock for a week before listing the rest. If you only sell on eBay and need multiple eBay accounts or high order counts, I would price the paid app plans against your real monthly order count. If eBay is one of three or more channels, I would stop adding apps and put one stock system in the middle. Fixing the data (unique SKUs, identifiers, tracking switched on) matters more than which app you choose.

Questions people ask

Does Shopify integrate with eBay?

Yes, through an app. Shopify makes its own, Shopify Marketplace Connect, which connects your catalog to eBay, Amazon, Walmart and Target Plus and syncs listings, orders and stock. Other makers sell eBay apps too. Shopify says to use only one connector app at a time.

How much does Shopify Marketplace Connect cost?

As of November 2026 the app listing says it is free to install, the first 50 synced marketplace orders a month are free, and each extra synced order carries a 1% fee, capped at $99 a month. Shopify's help page sends you to its pricing page for details, so check there for the current terms. eBay's own seller fees are a separate matter, so check eBay's fee pages.

Why is my Shopify eBay integration not working?

Start with the usual causes: two connector apps installed, products with no GTIN or UPC, missing shipping rates or payment provider, and stock tracking switched off. The fixes section above goes through them in order. If you want a plain-words look at your whole stock setup, read the inventory management system guide.

Can I connect Etsy with Shopify Marketplace Connect?

Not newly. Shopify's help pages say new connections to Etsy cannot be made with the app at this time, although stores already connected can keep using it. For Etsy you need a different sync tool. See my Etsy and Shopify data checks.

Can I link existing eBay listings to Shopify products?

Yes. Shopify's help pages for Marketplace Connect include a step for linking existing marketplace listings to Shopify products. Do this before you create new listings so you do not end up with duplicates on eBay.

Can several Shopify stores sell on one eBay account?

The app listings describe one store connecting to many marketplace accounts. Several stores into one eBay account is not covered, so ask the app maker in writing first and decide which store owns the stock count. If your setup is getting complicated, a custom system may be simpler than stacking apps. See business process automation.
