How to sync inventory between Shopify and Amazon

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 6 min read

Short answer: Yes, Shopify connects to Amazon. The usual route is Shopify Marketplace Connect, a free-to-install app made by Shopify that syncs listings, stock and orders between your store and Amazon. As of November 2026 the first 50 synced orders a month are free, then it charges 1% per extra synced order, capped at $99 a month. If you want one tool that also handles eBay, Etsy and Walmart with fast stock updates, Sellbrite (a multichannel selling tool owned by GoDaddy) has a free plan for up to 30 orders a month and paid plans priced by order volume. Stock held in Amazon's warehouses (FBA) needs separate handling.

You sell on Shopify and Amazon and want one stock count that stays right on both without you typing numbers twice.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

Can Shopify integrate with Amazon?

Yes. Shopify does not sell on Amazon for you, but it has a direct app for it. Shopify Marketplace Connect (formerly called Codisto) connects your Shopify product catalog to Amazon, Walmart and Target Plus in the US, and eBay. According to Shopify's help pages, changes you make to products and orders in your store sync across the marketplaces, and orders from Amazon appear in your Shopify Orders page with the marketplace name in the Channel field. When you ship an order, tracking goes back to Amazon automatically.

What you need first, per Shopify's requirements page: a live Shopify store (not password protected), a payment provider, shipping rates for the countries you sell to, and a verified seller account on Amazon. On Amazon's selling plans page, the Individual plan costs $0.99 per item sold and the Professional plan costs $39.99 a month, plus selling fees on both, as of November 2026. Check which plan any connector you choose requires.

Its listing says Shopify controls products and inventory in Sellbrite, while marketplace orders flow back to Shopify to be fulfilled. Cin7, an inventory system for growing sellers, says on its Amazon integration page that it matches products to Amazon listings by SKU or ASIN (Amazon's own product ID), and it tracks FBA stock separately from your own warehouse.

Step by step: connect Shopify and Amazon

  1. Pick the master. Decide which system owns the stock count. For most small brands that is Shopify. Every other channel then follows it. Two masters means two numbers and arguments between them.
  2. Fix your SKUs first. A SKU is a unique product code. Connectors match products by SKU, so each Shopify variant and its Amazon listing need the same code, character for character. "BLU-RED-M" and "BLU-RED-m" can be treated as two products. Do this before you connect anything.
  3. Open the right seller account. Create or confirm your Amazon seller account in the same country you sell in. Shopify's requirements page stresses this.
  4. Install the app. Install Marketplace Connect (or your chosen tool) from the Shopify App Store and sign in to your Amazon seller account when asked.
  5. Link existing listings; do not create duplicates. If you already have Amazon listings, match them to your Shopify products. Make each existing Amazon listing point to the right Shopify product before you publish anything new.
  6. Test with five products. Pick five. Change stock on Shopify and watch Amazon. Place a test order on each side. Check the stock number afterward on both.
  7. Turn it on for the rest, in batches. Add 50 to 100 products at a time. Look at the app's error list each day for the first week.

What to do about FBA stock

FBA means Fulfillment by Amazon: you send stock to Amazon's warehouses and Amazon ships the orders. That stock is a separate pile from what you hold yourself. This is where many syncs go wrong, because the two piles look like one number.

Think of it as three choices:

  • Keep FBA stock for Amazon only. Simple. Your Shopify count covers only what you hold. The risk is that Shopify shows items as sold out while Amazon has plenty.
  • Use FBA stock for Shopify orders too. Install Amazon's Multi-Channel Fulfillment app. Its listing says it syncs and fulfills US Shopify orders using your FBA inventory. Amazon charges fulfillment fees on top, so price a few real orders before committing.
  • Use a tool that tracks both piles. Cin7 says it tracks FBA stock separately from your own warehouse, and Sellbrite's listing does not mention FBA, so ask it before you rely on that. Read what each does before you buy, since "FBA support" can mean showing the number, not acting on it.

For reorder timing on FBA stock, see Amazon FBA inventory management and FBA restock planning.

What it really costs

A made-up example. A brand sells 300 orders a month across Shopify and Amazon, and 200 of them come from Amazon.

  • Marketplace Connect: the first 50 synced orders are free. The fee on the rest is 1% per extra synced order, with the cap at $99. Check in the app whether that 1% applies to order value, then work out your own number. The cap means the worst case is $99 a month.
  • Sellbrite: 200 marketplace orders would fit its 500-order tier. On the Shopify version that tier is $59 a month as of November 2026.
  • Amazon plan: $39.99 a month for Professional, because 200 items a month is well past the point where $0.99 an item costs more ($198 versus $39.99).

Those app fees are small next to the cost of one oversell, which means a refund, a cancelled order and an annoyed customer.

Common failure points

  • SKU mismatches. The most common cause. Items sit unlinked and never sync.
  • Variants. Amazon groups variations in its own way. A Shopify product with three options may not map neatly.
  • Delay. Syncs run on a schedule. A fast-selling item can sell on both channels inside one gap. Hold back a few units on each channel as a buffer.
  • Silent failures. A sync that stops raises no alarm. Look at the error list on a schedule, or add an alert.

How I'd approach this

With one Amazon account and one Shopify store, I would start with Marketplace Connect. It is free to try, made by Shopify, and good enough to learn how your own data behaves. Fix your SKUs before you install it, not after.

If you add Etsy, eBay or Walmart, move to a tool built for many channels. Sellbrite has a free plan, which makes it a low-risk way to try that. Above roughly 2,000 orders a month, or when you have a warehouse, look at Cin7 or Linnworks.

A custom layer starts to pay off when you are on three or more channels, have bundles or supplier stock, and the ready-made tools keep missing your rules. That layer holds one stock record, applies your buffers per channel, and sends an alert when a number drifts. I build these for small brands. If that sounds like you, talk to me before you buy a big system.

Questions people ask

Is there a free way to sync Shopify and Amazon?

Partly. Shopify Marketplace Connect is free to install and the first 50 synced orders a month are free, then it charges 1% per extra synced order, capped at $99 a month, as of November 2026. Sellbrite also has a free plan up to 30 orders a month.

Can I sync Shopify with Amazon FBA stock?

Yes, in two ways. Amazon's Multi-Channel Fulfillment app lets Amazon ship US Shopify orders from your FBA stock, with Amazon fees on top. Some multichannel tools also track FBA stock. See Amazon FBA inventory management.

Do I need an Amazon Professional account?

Shopify's requirements page says you need a verified Amazon seller account in the country you sell in. Amazon prices Individual at $0.99 per item sold and Professional at $39.99 a month. Check which one your chosen connector supports.

Why does my stock not match between Shopify and Amazon?

The usual causes are SKUs that differ between the two, variants that map badly, sync delay, and FBA stock counted as if it were your own. See Shopify Amazon integration not working for a checking method.

When do I outgrow a sync app?

Usually at three or more channels, when you carry bundles or supplier-held stock, or when your rules about what to show on each channel keep changing. Then a single stock record that all channels follow is easier to trust. See inventory management systems.
