What should I consider besides Finale Inventory?
Short answer: Finale Inventory, now sold as Descartes Finale, is inventory software for sellers on Shopify, Amazon and other channels, and plans start at $499 a month as of November 2026. The main alternatives are Cin7 (from $349 a month), Fishbowl (from $229 a month billed yearly), Unleashed, Katana and, for very small catalogs, Sortly. If Finale mostly works and you only miss a few things, adding a small layer on top is often cheaper than switching.
You are using Finale Inventory or pricing it, and you want to know what else is out there, what it costs, and whether switching is worth the pain.
I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.
What is Finale Inventory?
Finale Inventory is inventory software that tracks stock across warehouses and sales channels, builds purchase orders, and reports on costs. The company is now part of Descartes, and the pricing page carries the name Descartes Finale. It lists 40+ sales channel integrations, including Shopify (an online store platform), Amazon, Walmart and QuickBooks (accounting software). It says new customers go live in 2 to 6 weeks.

What does Finale cost?
As of November 2026, Finale shows three plans:
- Essentials: from $499 a month, for 1 to 2 warehouses.
- Growth: from $799 a month, which Finale calls the common starting point. It includes a mobile barcode scanning module.
- Enterprise: custom price, with API access, EDI (a standard way big retailers send orders), a dedicated account manager and uptime guarantees.
Every plan lists multi-warehouse tracking, purchase automation, min-max reordering (order when stock falls under a minimum, up to a maximum), sales velocity forecasting and landed cost reporting. You request a demo to buy, so the "from" price is a starting point, not a final quote.
Why do people look for a Finale alternative?
From Finale's own pricing page, these are the pressure points I would check:
- The starting price. $499 a month is more than most of the alternatives below start at.
- Barcode scanning. It is listed as a module on Growth and above, so Essentials buyers who run a warehouse may need to move up.
- API access. Finale lists its API and EDI access under Enterprise. If you want to build your own connections, ask whether your plan includes them.
- No self-serve checkout. You book a demo before you see a final price.
- Manufacturing needs. If you make products, check that Finale handles your bills of materials. Katana and Fishbowl are built more around that. See my manufacturing software guide.
For real-world complaints about Finale, read recent reviews on G2 or Capterra (software review sites) and ask Finale for two customers who sell like you. Sort by the newest reviews, since software changes fast.
Which alternatives cost what?
All prices are USD and from each vendor's own page, as of November 2026.

The best Finale Inventory alternatives
Blur Studio (best value)
A ready-built, well-tested core with a different pricing model: no per-seat fees, and it covers almost all the features you'd actually need, usually working out to the best value for money. On top of that, Blur Studio builds owned customizations, meaning you can ask for it to be modified to your exact specifications, and you own those modifications outright. Learn more over a quick call with me, Ranjit.
- Best for: Businesses that need software that works without barriers, no unnecessary fees and options to customize it to their needs.
Cin7
Cin7 is inventory software for multichannel sellers, with plans from $349 a month for 5 users and 6,000 sales orders a year. The limits on orders and connections are the catch: Standard includes 2 store or app connections. It sells ForesightAI, its forecasting tool, as an add-on. See Cin7 pricing explained.
- Best for: Brands selling in many places that want a published price.
Fishbowl
Fishbowl is inventory and manufacturing software that syncs with QuickBooks Online and Xero. Essentials is $229 a month for 2 users, Growth is $429 for 5 users and adds multichannel selling, and Scale is $729 for 10 users. Manufacturing editions start at $675. My Fishbowl alternatives guide covers where it stops fitting.
- Best for: Sellers who also make or assemble what they sell.
Unleashed
Unleashed is inventory software for product-based businesses. Core lists at $399 a month with 3 users and 100 sales orders a month, and Pro at $729 with 5 users. Production is a $69 a month add-on. It runs a limited first-three-months discount, so check its pricing page for today's terms.
- Best for: Wholesalers and makers who like paying by module.
Katana
Katana is inventory and production software for small makers. It is free up to 30 SKUs with unlimited users and connections, then you get a custom quote for its Advantage plan. See my Cin7 vs Katana comparison.
- Best for: Small brands that make what they sell.
Sortly
Sortly is simple item tracking software with barcode labels. It has a free plan for 100 unique items, and Advanced covers 500 unique items for $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly (Sortly says that is a 50% discount that applies to the first year only). Its page lists purchase orders from the higher Ultra plan up, so it suits a small catalog.
- Best for: Small catalogs that need counting and locations, not channel sync.
Inventory Planner
Inventory Planner is a planning tool that connects to your sales channels and inventory system rather than replacing them. Pricing is by the volume of inventory you manage, with unlimited users, and you request a quote. It says customers go live in about 4 weeks.
- Best for: Brands happy with their system that want better reorder planning.
Should I switch, or add a layer?
Switching costs more than the price difference. You clean product data, recount stock, retrain staff and run two systems for a while. So first ask what exactly is missing. If it is one of the items below, a layer on top of Finale is often cheaper:
- Reading supplier price lists and invoices into purchase orders.
- A daily alert for low stock or odd orders.
- A weekly report in the shape your accountant wants.
- A link to a tool Finale does not connect to.
See AI inventory management for what AI can add to the tools you have, and the ecommerce tool stack for how the pieces fit. If Finale connects to Shopify, Amazon and QuickBooks the way you need, switching rarely pays for itself.
Need something completely custom?
Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes none of these fit, and what you need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. Get in touch to know more.
How I'd approach this
I would write down the three things that annoy you most about your current setup, and put a price on the time each one costs per month. If two of the three are small gaps, add a layer and stay. If the core is wrong, for example you now make products and Finale does not model them, pick the alternative with a trial, move one product line first, and run both systems for a month before you switch off the old one. Always get a written quote with every add-on included.
Questions people ask
How much does Finale Inventory cost?
As of November 2026, Essentials starts at $499 a month and Growth at $799 a month. Enterprise is custom. You request a demo to get a final price. See Finale's pricing page.
Does Finale integrate with Shopify and QuickBooks?
Finale lists Shopify, Amazon, Walmart and QuickBooks among 40+ integrations. Ask for a demo of your exact setup, especially how it handles your product variants and bundles.
What are the main problems people report with Finale?
Read recent reviews on G2 and Capterra for first-hand reports, and ask Finale for customers who sell like you. From its pricing page, the points to check are the starting price, which plan includes barcode scanning, and which plan includes API access.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Finale?
Yes. Fishbowl starts at $229 a month billed yearly, Cin7 at $349 a month, and Katana is free up to 30 SKUs. Compare what each includes, not just the starting price. My Cin7 pricing guide shows how add-ons change the total.
Should I switch or add a layer on top?
If Finale handles your core stock and sync well, and you only miss alerts, supplier file reading or custom reports, add a layer. Switch when the core itself no longer fits, such as manufacturing needs.
How long does it take to switch inventory systems?
Finale itself says it takes 2 to 6 weeks to go live. Expect something similar for any switch, plus time to clean product data and count stock.
