What does Housecall Pro AI do, and what does it cost?
Short answer: Housecall Pro, a software subscription for home service businesses that handles scheduling, estimates, invoices and payments, now has an AI Team built into the app. Four of its five AI members (a reporting helper, a business coach, a writing helper and a help-desk helper) are included in every plan at no extra charge. The fifth, CSR AI, is the one that answers your phone and books jobs 24/7. It is a paid add-on, and Housecall Pro does not show its price on the pricing or feature pages, so check it at sign-up or in a demo.
You want to know what Housecall Pro's AI actually does for a small trades business, what it costs, and where it stops.
I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.
If you want to know where AI would pay off in your own business before you add another subscription, the AI Strategy Sprint is a paid 3-day first step that finds it.
What is the Housecall Pro AI Team?
Housecall Pro is field service software for plumbers, HVAC crews, electricians, cleaners and other home service businesses. It runs the daily work: booking, scheduling, dispatching, estimates, invoices and card payments. Its AI is not a separate product. It sits inside the same account, so it can see your customers, jobs and price book.
Housecall Pro calls this the AI Team. Its help center lists five members:
| AI member | What it does | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| CSR AI | Answers phone calls and website chats, books jobs, logs a summary of each call. CSR stands for customer service rep. | Paid add-on, no public price |
| Analyst AI | You ask a question in plain words ("which tech had the highest average ticket last month?") and it builds a report from your job data. | Included in all plans |
| Coach AI | Answers business questions about hiring, pricing and growth. | Included in all plans |
| Marketing AI | Writes emails, service descriptions and review replies through a "Write it for me" button. | Included in all plans |
| Help AI | Answers questions about how to use Housecall Pro itself. | Included in all plans |
This list comes from Housecall Pro's own AI Team page and help center as of November 2026. The help center says Analyst, Coach and Help AI are the ones you can chat with from the blue chat bubble in the app. It also says that if an answer is poor, a "Talk to a person" button hands your chat history to a support rep.
What does CSR AI, the AI receptionist, actually do?
CSR AI is the part most owners care about, because a missed call is a missed job. It is an AI receptionist: software that answers the phone in a natural voice, asks what the caller needs and acts on it. If you want the general picture, my guide to the AI receptionist covers how these tools work across all kinds of businesses.
Housecall Pro's pages describe these abilities:
- Answers calls and website chats day or night. Text answering is listed as in alpha (early testing), so do not count on it yet.
- Books jobs and estimates straight onto your calendar, using your price book, service area and technician availability.
- Reschedules and cancels appointments, if you switch those permissions on.
- Handles escalation. You choose what happens when a caller needs a human: forward to a number, pass to a Housecall Pro Assist rep (their human team) for note-taking, or end the call politely and send you notes. Emergency calls can forward or text you, and that handling is always on.
- Logs every call with a summary and an urgency rating, and a dashboard shows calls handled, jobs booked and revenue attributed to those bookings.
- Lets you shape it: voice, tone, background noise, scripts, how it says your business name, and whether it tells callers it is an AI. The help center says the default greeting no longer includes an AI disclosure, so you decide.
Setup works by forwarding your business number to a number Housecall Pro gives you. Do not publish that number in ads. You can hear a demo before paying, and a "Test CSR AI" button lets you role-play as a caller once you have it.
How much does Housecall Pro AI cost?
Here is what Housecall Pro's pricing page shows as of November 2026. The plans are Basic at $59 a month (billed yearly, $79 monthly) for 1 user, Essentials at $149 ($189 monthly) for 5 users, and Max at $299 ($329 monthly) for 8 users plus $35 a month per extra user. The page lists "AI team members to automate your work" among the features, and the help center says every AI Team member except CSR AI comes free with your account. That covers the four included members.
CSR AI is different. The AI Team page says it is sold separately, and the help center calls it an optional add-on that you can sign up for through a self-serve process or after a demo. Housecall Pro shows no per-month or per-minute CSR AI price on its pricing or feature pages, so do not trust any figure you see on a blog. Get the price in writing and ask these questions:
- Is the price flat, or by call minutes or number of calls?
- Is there a setup fee or a contract term?
- What happens to cost in a busy month, such as a heat wave?
- How do you cancel? (The help center says you submit a request from the billing tab or contact support.)
For the plan prices themselves, my Housecall Pro pricing guide has the full table and the payment fees.
How does it compare with other field service AI?
Most field service tools now sell an AI phone add-on. Jobber, another field service software subscription, lists its AI Receptionist at $29 a month on its pricing page as of November 2026, and describes it as answering calls and texts, taking requests and booking jobs. FieldPulse, another field service platform, sells Operator AI for after-hours, declined and overloaded calls, and says its office assistant, Maverick, is included on every plan. I compare the first two in Jobber vs Housecall Pro.
If you only want an answering service and do not want to switch your software, there are standalone options too. The HVAC answering service guide covers human and AI services for trades, and the contractor answering service guide covers how they connect to Jobber, ServiceTitan and Housecall Pro.
What the built-in AI does not do
The built-in AI is a good start. Here is where it stops, based on what the pages say it does:
- It works inside Housecall Pro. Its pages describe it using your Housecall Pro jobs, customers and price book. Reading your supplier emails, shared inbox or Google reviews and acting on them is not among the listed abilities.
- It books from your price book. The help center says line item names must be specific, such as "Plumbing Service Call" rather than "Service Call," or it may pick the wrong one. It also says no setup guarantees 100 percent accuracy.
- It cannot book if the calendar is full. If CSR AI cannot book, it texts you and you call back.
- Reports come from your Housecall Pro data. Analyst AI is described as answering from your job and business history. Combining that with your bank, QuickBooks or ad spend is not among the listed abilities.
- Follow-up is thin. Chasing an unsigned estimate across three weeks is not among the listed abilities of the AI Team.
A worked example (made-up numbers)
Say a two-truck HVAC company misses about 12 calls a month, mostly after 5 pm and at lunch. Say 1 in 3 of those callers would have booked, and the average job is $350. That is 4 lost jobs and $1,400 a month, or $16,800 a year. These figures are invented to show the math, not a result you should expect.
If CSR AI books half of those missed callers, that is about $700 a month back. Whether that beats the quote depends on the quote, which is why you ask for it in writing. Track real missed calls for two weeks first. Your phone carrier's call log gives you the count for free.
Where a custom AI workflow fits
Some gaps are better filled by a small custom workflow than by waiting for the vendor. These are the ones I would look at first for a trades business, using a general AI model such as Claude that reads and writes text:
- Estimate follow-up. Pull open estimates older than 3 days, draft a short personal text for each, and have you approve it.
- After-hours triage. Read the call log, flag true emergencies, and write the next-morning call list in priority order.
- Review replies. Draft answers to new reviews in your voice, for you to approve.
- Weekly owner summary. Combine Housecall Pro exports with your accounting numbers into one page.
Each one is small and pays back fast. To work out which comes first for you, the AI Strategy Sprint is built for exactly that choice. For the wider picture, read AI for small business and business process automation.
How I'd approach this
I would turn on the four included AI members and use Analyst AI for a month. It costs nothing, and it shows you how clean your data is. Bad price book names will hurt CSR AI later, so fix them now.
Then count your missed calls for two weeks. If you miss more than a handful of real leads a month, ask Housecall Pro for a CSR AI quote and listen to the demo with a hard caller in mind: a vague complaint, a price shopper, a flooded basement. If the quote is higher than the jobs it would save, a standalone answering service or a simple after-hours voicemail with a text back may beat it. Keep a human check on anything the AI books for the first month, because the help center itself says mistakes happen.
Questions people ask
Does Housecall Pro have AI?
Yes. Housecall Pro has an AI Team built into the app: CSR AI (phone and chat answering), Analyst AI (reports), Coach AI (business advice), Marketing AI (writing) and Help AI (product help). Four are included in every plan. CSR AI is a paid add-on.
How much does Housecall Pro CSR AI cost?
Housecall Pro does not show a CSR AI price on its pricing or feature pages. Check the price at sign-up or in a demo, and get in writing whether billing is flat or by usage. Plan prices are in my Housecall Pro pricing guide.
Can Housecall Pro AI book jobs on its own?
CSR AI can book jobs and estimates onto your calendar when you allow it, using your price book, service area and availability. You choose whether it can also reschedule or cancel. If it cannot book, it notifies you so you can call back. Housecall Pro says no setup guarantees perfect accuracy.
Does the Housecall Pro AI receptionist replace a human answering service?
Not always. It handles routine calls well when your price book is clean, but angry or unusual callers may need a person. You can set it to hand off to a number you pick. For a comparison, read my HVAC answering service guide and the AI receptionist guide.
Is Housecall Pro AI free?
Part of it. Analyst, Coach, Marketing and Help AI are included in all plans per Housecall Pro's help center. CSR AI call answering is an optional paid add-on. The 14-day free trial is listed on the pricing page, and its demo lets you hear CSR AI without paying.
Can AI help with Housecall Pro reporting?
Yes. Analyst AI lets you ask questions in plain words and lets you save the report. It is built on your Housecall Pro job and business data. For what the standard reports show, see my Housecall Pro reporting guide.
