What should I look at besides Brightpearl?

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 6 min read

Short answer: Brightpearl is a retail operations system that handles orders, stock, purchasing and accounting links for sellers on many channels. Its price is a custom quote and, by its own figure, customers go live in 90 to 120 days on average. The closest alternatives are Linnworks and Cin7 for channel and order handling, Katana for sellers who make what they sell, Finale for a faster and cheaper start, and Zoho Inventory or Odoo for tight budgets. Prices below are as of November 2026.

You want to know what else is out there next to Brightpearl, and how the cost and the time to get running compare.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

Why do people look past Brightpearl?

Brightpearl is a retail operations platform. It pulls orders from your web store and marketplaces into one place, tracks stock, handles purchasing and passes numbers to your accounting tool. Its pricing page says unlimited users are included and that it builds a bespoke set-up for every customer. Plenty of sellers are happy with it. The reasons people compare tend to repeat:

  • No public price: The pricing page has a request form, not a price list. You cannot budget before a sales call.
  • Setup time: Brightpearl says customers go live in 90 to 120 days on average. That is three to four months of effort before the system earns anything.
  • Size: A bespoke set-up with a written technical proposal is built for a business with real order volume. A store doing a few hundred orders a month may not need that.

Brightpearl's page also states a 97% success rate and shows ratings of 4.4 out of 5 on Capterra and 4.5 on G2 (two software review sites). Those are the vendor's own numbers, so read recent reviews yourself before you trust either side.

What are the best Brightpearl alternatives?

Blur Studio (best value)

A ready-built, well-tested core with a different pricing model: no per-seat fees, and it covers almost all the features you'd actually need, usually working out to the best value for money. On top of that, Blur Studio builds owned customizations, meaning you can ask for it to be modified to your exact specifications, and you own those modifications outright. • Best for: Businesses that need software that works without barriers, no unnecessary fees and options to customize it to their needs.

Linnworks

Linnworks is order and inventory software for sellers on many channels. Its page lists 100+ channel connections, 70+ shipping providers, a rules engine for routing orders, and an open API for custom work. Plans are priced on order volume, not revenue, with no percentage fees, and every package includes a guided onboarding plan. Price is by quote.

  • Best for: Sellers with high order counts across many marketplaces who care most about routing and shipping.

Cin7 Core

Cin7 Core is inventory software for product brands that sell through several channels. Plans run $349 a month (5 users, 6,000 sales orders a year), $599 (10 users, 24,000 orders) and $1,199 (15 users, 120,000 orders), excluding tax. Cin7 says its group onboarding gets you fully running in about four weeks. I cover the real cost in my Cin7 pricing guide, and the connections in my Cin7 integrations guide.

  • Best for: Growing brands that want published prices and a roughly one-month start.

Katana

Katana is inventory software for businesses that make products, so it tracks raw materials, production and stock together. A free plan covers up to 30 SKUs. Paid use is a custom annual contract that Katana says includes unlimited users and integrations plus implementation.

  • Best for: Makers and small manufacturers who sell online.

Finale

Finale, now part of Descartes, is inventory software for multichannel sellers. Essentials starts at $499 a month and Growth at $799, and Enterprise is by quote. It lists 40+ sales channel connections and says customers go live in 2 to 6 weeks.

  • Best for: Sellers who want a fast start and a published entry price. Compare it with my Fishbowl alternatives list, which covers similar ground.

Zoho Inventory

Zoho Inventory is stock and order software from Zoho, a business-software company. Its free plan allows 50 orders, 1 user and 1 location. Standard allows 500 orders a month, 3 users and 2 locations. Its page lists links to Amazon, Etsy (a marketplace for handmade and vintage goods) and Shopify (an online store platform). Check Zoho's US page for the current dollar prices of the paid tiers.

  • Best for: Small sellers with tight budgets and simple needs.

Odoo

Odoo is a business suite with apps for sales, inventory, accounting and more. It has a free plan with one app and unlimited users, and paid plans priced per user per month for all apps. The Custom plan adds an external API. I compare it in my Odoo alternatives guide. Check Odoo's page for USD prices.

  • Best for: Businesses that want one suite and have someone to set it up.

Can I keep my tools instead of switching?

Often, yes. Many sellers do not need a new platform. They need their web store, marketplaces, shipping tool and accounting software to share data properly. A small custom connection that moves orders and stock counts between tools you already pay for can cost far less than a 90 to 120 day rollout.

Here is a made-up example. A seller uses Shopify, Amazon and QuickBooks, and ships 1,500 orders a month. The only real pain is stock counts drifting between Shopify and Amazon. A platform costing a few hundred dollars a month plus months of setup fixes that, but so does one small sync that updates both counts every few minutes. If drift is your only problem, price the sync first. My guides to inventory management systems and business process automation explain when this route makes sense.

How do I decide?

  1. Write down your monthly orders and how many channels you sell on.
  2. List the three problems costing you the most, such as overselling, slow shipping or manual accounting entry.
  3. Rule out anything that does not solve those three.
  4. Ask each remaining vendor for total first-year cost: subscription, setup, extra connections and extra users.
  5. Ask each one for a go-live date in writing.

Need something completely custom?

Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes none of these fit, and what you need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. Get in touch to know more. If you are weighing a build against a subscription, my custom ERP guide lays out the trade-offs.

How I'd approach this

I would not start by comparing platforms. I would start with the three problems from the list above and ask whether they are really platform problems. Overselling and slow data entry are often sync problems, and a sync is a small job. If your problems are bigger, such as multiple warehouses or making products from raw materials, then a platform earns its price, and I would pick on setup time and first-year cost, not feature lists.

Whatever you choose, get the go-live date in writing and keep your product list clean before you start. Most late rollouts I see stall on messy data, not on the software.
