Alternatives to Bubble for a real business app

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 5 min read

Short answer: The best Bubble alternatives depend on what the app actually needs to do. Softr (from $19 a month on annual billing) is the strongest fit for an internal tool or customer portal built from existing data. Glide (from $25 a month) is built around turning a spreadsheet or prompt into a working app fast. Adalo (from $65 a month, or $30 for the first month) is closer to Bubble itself for a native mobile app with a visual canvas. And Lovable, Bolt.new or Emergent (all from $20 to $25 a month) are worth considering if you'd rather describe the app in plain language than learn any visual editor at all, Bubble's included.

Bubble isn't fitting your business app the way you hoped, whether that's the price, the learning curve or a feature it can't build, and you want real alternatives, not just a generic list.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

Why look for a Bubble alternative

Bubble is a no-code platform for building web, iOS and Android apps from a visual editor, and it's one of the longest-established tools in this category. People look for alternatives for a few repeat reasons: the learning curve is real if you've never used a visual logic editor before, the $59-a-month Starter plan feels like a lot before you've validated the idea is worth it, and some business apps, an internal tool pulling from existing data, a mobile-first app, fit a more specialized platform better than Bubble's general-purpose approach.

Bubble's strength is also the reason it can feel like overkill for a narrower job. It's built to handle almost any kind of app, which means you're paying for, and learning, a lot of general-purpose capability even when your actual project only needs a slice of it. A specialized alternative built around your specific use case, an internal tool, a spreadsheet-based app, a chat-first builder, can get you there with less to learn and sometimes less to pay. If you are weighing this against chat-first tools, no code versus AI app builders explains the difference.

Real alternatives to Bubble

Softr

Softr describes itself as the AI app builder for business operations, built specifically for internal tools and portals with databases, workflow automation and integrations included on every plan. On annual billing, Free is $0, Basic is $19, Pro is $99 and Business is $329 a month, and every plan including the free one includes unlimited apps, databases, workflows and forms. If Softr is close but not right, Softr alternatives compares Glide, Noloco and others.

  • Best for: An internal tool or customer-facing portal built around existing business data, at a lower entry price than Bubble.

Glide

Glide, built on the GlideOS platform, is an AI software development platform specifically for building internal business apps starting from a spreadsheet, a prompt, or a file. Free gives 2 team members and 10 projects with no published apps. Basic is $25 a month for 100 credits and 2 published apps, and Plus is $50 a month for 250 credits and 5 published apps.

  • Best for: A business that already has its data in a spreadsheet and wants an app layered directly on top of it.

Adalo

Adalo is a visual AI app builder for database-driven web apps and native iOS and Android apps built from a single canvas, the closest alternative to Bubble in general shape. Free (forever) includes its Ada AI assistant with 5 monthly prompts and one free app build, capped at 500 records. Builder is $65 a month ($30 for the first month) with unlimited AI prompts and direct publishing to the App Store, Google Play and the web.

  • Best for: A native mobile app built visually, closest in spirit to what Bubble offers but with a different editor and pricing structure.

Lovable, Bolt.new and Emergent

If what's actually bothering you about Bubble is the learning curve rather than the price or feature set, a chat-first AI app builder solves that differently: you describe the app in plain language instead of learning a visual editor at all. Lovable (an AI software engineer you chat with) starts at $25 a month for 100 credits. Bolt.new (an AI website and app builder with the same chat-first approach) starts at $25 a month for 10 million tokens. Emergent (which builds production-ready web and mobile apps through chat) starts at $20 a month ($17 annually) for 100 monthly credits. Try Emergent if mobile output matters as much as web. My comparison of Bubble and AI app builders goes through the trade-offs in more detail.

  • Best for: Skipping the visual-editor learning curve entirely by describing the app instead.

Matching the alternative to the actual app

A field service business tracking jobs and crew locations from a spreadsheet is a near-perfect fit for Glide, since that's exactly the starting point it's built around. A real estate agency wanting a client portal to share documents and status updates fits Softr's internal-tool focus better than a general-purpose builder like Bubble. A fitness coach wanting a branded mobile app for workout plans and bookings fits Adalo's native mobile focus. And a founder who just wants to describe an idea once and see it working, without learning any visual tool at all, fits one of the chat-first options regardless of what the app actually does.

Pick by what the app actually needs to do

If the app is really an internal operations tool pulling from data you already have, Softr or Glide will likely cost less and fit faster than Bubble. If it's a native mobile app and you want Bubble's visual-canvas approach without the price, Adalo is the closest match. If the real issue is Bubble's learning curve rather than what it can build, a chat-first tool removes that problem entirely, at the cost of the direct control Bubble gives you.

If none of the alternatives feel like a clean fit, that's often a sign the app genuinely needs Bubble's general-purpose flexibility rather than a specialized tool's narrower focus. There's no shame in that, Bubble earned its reputation by being the one platform that can stretch to cover almost any app shape, which is precisely what none of the more specialized alternatives above are trying to do.

Can you move your existing Bubble app to one of these?

Not directly in most cases. Softr, Glide and Adalo don't import a Bubble project file, and the chat-first tools build everything fresh from a prompt rather than reading in existing work. If you already have something built in Bubble and it's mostly working, switching usually means weighing the cost of rebuilding against whatever's actually driving you to look elsewhere, price, learning curve, or a missing feature, since Bubble's own limitations rarely disappear just because you move the underlying idea somewhere else.

Need something completely custom?

Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes the honest answer is that none of those quite fit, and what you actually need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. Questions people ask

What's the cheapest real alternative to Bubble?

Softr's Basic plan at $19 a month (annual billing) is currently the cheapest among the real alternatives here, and every Softr plan including the free one includes unlimited apps and databases.

Is Glide a good fit if I already run my business from a spreadsheet?

Yes, that's specifically what Glide is built for: turning an existing spreadsheet, prompt or file into a working internal business app, faster than building the same thing from scratch in Bubble.

Is Adalo really similar to Bubble?

It's the closest alternative here in general shape, a visual canvas for building database-driven apps across web, iOS and Android, though its pricing and editor work differently from Bubble's.

Why would I pick a chat-first tool over Bubble for a business app?

If Bubble's visual editor and its underlying logic feel like more to learn than you want to take on, a chat-first tool like Lovable, Bolt or Emergent removes that step entirely by building from a plain-language description instead.

Can I move my existing Bubble app to one of these alternatives?

Not directly. None of these platforms import a competitor's project files, so switching generally means rebuilding the app on the new platform.

Roughly what does a custom build cost?

As a broad reference, fixes and finishes start at around $1,500, and new builds start higher, always a fixed price agreed in writing before I start, never an hourly rate. My AI app cost guide explains what actually drives a quote up or down.

Is my business too small for this?

No. Most of the owners I work with have no tech team at all, that is the whole point. If one of the tools above genuinely gets you where you need to go, I will tell you that on the first call, even though it means I do not get paid.
