Higgsfield vs Leonardo AI for images and video

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 9 min read

Short answer: Leonardo AI is an image-first generator that lets you train your own style models and also offers some video. Higgsfield is a web platform that hosts many AI image and video models plus its own film and ad tools. If your work is image-led and you want a trained brand style at a low price, Leonardo's $12 Essential plan is the cheaper way in. If video is the main output, Higgsfield is built around it. Prices are vendor figures as of November 2026, so check both pricing pages.

Leonardo and Higgsfield both say they make images and video, yet they start from opposite ends. The choice gets easier once you know which end your work starts from.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

For a small studio or agency, the question is not "which is the best generator". It is which one fits the work you sell, what it costs per usable result, and what happens to your clients' files. This page compares Higgsfield, a platform with many image and video models behind one login, with Leonardo AI, an image generator with trained style models, using each vendor's own pages.

Leonardo's pricing page and the ownership clause of its terms, as they stood on 4 November 2026, are quoted below. There is no neutral image-quality ranking here, because no independent test is known, and the comparison pages that rank them are written by directories or rival vendors.

The short answer

Pick Leonardo if you make images for a brand and want a saved style, private generations at a low monthly price, or a cheap team plan. Pick Higgsfield if you also make video, want several video models and character tools in one place, or build ad clips. Do not buy both for the same job. If you only need a few images a week, start with a free plan and measure.

Two different centres of gravity

Leonardo AI began as an image generator. Its plans are sold in tokens (its unit of spend), its own image models include Phoenix and Lucid (the pricing page lists Lucid Origin, Lucid Realism and Phoenix 1.0 among others), and it offers trained "personal AI models" so you can teach it a look. Video is an add-on.

Higgsfield began from video and character work. It hosts image models such as Nano Banana (Google's image model), Seedream (ByteDance) and GPT Image (OpenAI), and video models such as Kling (a video model from Kuaishou), Seedance (ByteDance), Veo (Google) and Wan. It adds Soul 2.0, its own image model with style presets (see Higgsfield Soul explained), and tools for characters and ads.

The older comparison of Higgsfield with another image specialist is in Higgsfield vs Midjourney. The structure is similar, but Leonardo differs on trained models, public versus private output and team pricing, which is what I focus on here.

The Leonardo figures are what the page showed at its default view. The page also offers "Pay Yearly, up to 20% off", and when I clicked "Pay Monthly" the figures did not change, so confirm the price and billing period at checkout. For teams, the page lists 25,000 fast tokens per seat on Starter and 60,000 on Growth.

Tokens and credits are different units, so you cannot compare 25,000 tokens with 1,200 credits. What you can compare is what a result costs. The Leonardo pricing page does not print a token cost per image or per video, so check the cost in the app before you commit. Higgsfield prints credit costs for some models (for example about 0.12 credits per Soul 2.0 image and about 7 for a Kling 3.0 720p clip) and says the cost shows on the Generate button for its newest tools. See Higgsfield pricing explained and check the live page, since plans change.

Image quality and control

No image-quality winner is named here. What can be compared is how you control the look.

  • Leonardo: trained personal models. The pricing page lists personal AI models: 10 on Essential, 20 on Premium and 50 on Ultimate. A trained model is a way to teach the tool a house look from your own examples. For a brand with a strong visual style, that is a real feature.
  • Higgsfield: Soul 2.0, Moodboards and Soul ID. Soul 2.0 has presets in seven categories and Moodboards (Higgsfield advises 20 or more images). Soul ID saves a character from 20 or more photos. This is a different approach: a saved person or product face rather than a trained overall style.
  • Many models in one place. On Higgsfield you can switch to Nano Banana Pro, Seedream or GPT Image for a single job and keep the rest of the workflow.

For a brand style library, which is a repeatable look across hundreds of images, Leonardo's trained models are a strong fit on paper. For a character who must appear in both images and video, Higgsfield's character tools are the more direct route. For a longer guide to holding one look across assets, see keeping a brand look across AI images and video.

What Higgsfield does for this job

Where the work leaves still images, Higgsfield's pages show what it adds.

  • Video models in the same account. You can animate a still with Kling, Seedance 2.0, Veo 3.1 and others without leaving the platform.
  • Film-style shots. Cinema Studio 4.0 runs on Seedance 2.5, takes up to 50 references, and makes clips up to 30 seconds at up to 1080p.
  • Ad tools. Marketing Studio builds ad drafts from a product link or reference.
  • Team workspace. Team and Scale share one credit pool and workspace across seats.

Costs for Cinema Studio, Marketing Studio and Seedance 2.5 are not printed on the pricing page, so budget by testing, not guessing.

The video side

Leonardo is not a video-first tool. Its pricing page says relaxed (slower, unlimited) generation applies to listed image models on Premium, and that Ultimate adds some listed video models, with the page naming MiniMax H3 at 480p, Wan 2.6, Hailuo 2.3 and Motion 2.0. The page does not list per-clip token costs, so what a frontier video model costs there is unknown. Relaxed pace may slow down when demand is high, according to the vendor page.

Higgsfield offers a much wider list of video models and tools. That does not make every clip good, and it does not remove the need to review each output. For quality control of any AI clip, see avoiding the AI look. If you only need a few seconds of motion on an otherwise still-image job, Leonardo's video may be enough, and I would test that before paying for a second platform.

Privacy and rights

Information, not legal advice. Check local law and each platform's current terms and the contract you sign with your client.

  • Leonardo public versus private. The pricing page lists Free creations as "Public" and paid plans as "Private". If a client's work must stay out of a public feed, a free account is the wrong tool for that work.
  • Leonardo ownership and commercial terms. Clause 8 of Leonardo's Terms of Service (last updated 19 January 2026) covers ownership. Clause 8.3 says that on a paid subscription, ownership of the intellectual property in content you create vests in you, to the extent the law permits. Clause 8.7 says the opposite for Free subscribers: ownership of what they create vests in Leonardo. So Free output is not yours to sell. Clause 8.4 lets paid users choose public or private, and public content may be used by all users and by Leonardo, including to train AI models (8.6). The page does not use the words "commercial use" the way a licence would, so if a client contract depends on it, get Leonardo's confirmation in writing.
  • Higgsfield free and commercial use. The pricing table marks commercial use "Not included" for Free, while the help center says the terms do not tie commercial rights to a plan. Free output is watermarked. Put client work on a paid plan.
  • Training on your content. Higgsfield may train on content unless you have an Enterprise agreement. So a Team or Scale workspace cannot promise a client that nothing is used for training. Leonardo's clause 8.5 is stronger for private content: it says Leonardo will not use, analyse or process your Private Content for other purposes, including training AI models, without your express written consent. That is a real point in Leonardo's favour for confidential client work, but it applies only to content set to private, which means a paid plan. See what to ask before you upload client work.

Team seats

On the vendors' pricing pages, Leonardo's Team Starter is $72 a month for three seats, or $24 a seat, and Growth is $144, or $48 a seat. Higgsfield's Team is from $65 per seat per month billed annually ($79 monthly), for 2 to 9 seats, and Scale is from $150 per seat for 5 to 15 seats. On seat price alone, Leonardo is cheaper.

Seat price is not the whole cost. Leonardo's small team shares a token pool, and Higgsfield's Team pools credits across the workspace. A team that makes mostly stills may spend less on Leonardo. For video, neither vendor prints a cost per clip for every model, so test before you assume the seat price is the whole cost. Leonardo's Team plans also list Realtime Canvas actions as unlimited. Higgsfield workspace admins can view members' content, so tell your staff. For seat and billing rules, see sharing an AI account across your agency.

A test plan you can run

  1. Write a style brief: ten images that should look like one brand, plus three 5 second clips.
  2. On Leonardo, train a personal model if the plan includes it, and note the tokens used. On Higgsfield, use Soul 2.0 or a saved character and note the credits used.
  3. Have one other person pick the best result from each set without knowing which tool made it.
  4. Record attempts, cost and any rights question that came up.

Pass: at least seven of ten images accepted without a manual fix, and at least one of three clips usable. Fail: fewer than five of ten images match the style, the clips need heavy repair, or a private-output or training answer is missing. Choose the platform that passes at the lower cost per accepted result.

Who should skip Higgsfield

  • Your work is image-only and you want a trained brand style at a low monthly price.
  • You need the cheapest private plan: Leonardo's $12 Essential is below Higgsfield's $19 Starter, though the two buy different things.
  • You run a team of three on stills and want the lowest seat price.
  • A client demands a no-training promise and you are not on an Enterprise agreement: Leonardo's terms give that for private content on a paid plan, and Higgsfield's do not.
  • You need an API on a pay-as-you-go balance. Leonardo's pricing page lists one (API credit does not expire). Higgsfield also has an API, with its own prepaid dollar balance (minimum top-up $5) separate from plan credits, per its help center.

If two of those fit, Leonardo is probably the better first step. For other image tools, see the business image generator comparison.

How I'd approach this

I would decide whether images or video is the product. If images, I would start on Leonardo's lowest private plan, train one model on a real client's style and see if the output holds up. If video is a regular deliverable, I would test Higgsfield's paid plans and measure credits per approved clip before choosing a tier. I would keep a sheet of what each client costs in tokens or credits, and I would not buy both. Blur Studio can build the repeatable workflow, approval portal or shared asset library around the tools you choose; see how that works.

Questions people ask

Is Leonardo AI free?

It has a free plan with 150 fast tokens a day, per its pricing page. Free creations are listed as public, so use a paid plan for private client work.

Are Leonardo images private?

The pricing page lists private creations on paid plans and public on Free. Clause 8.5 of its terms says private content is not used to train AI models without your written consent.

Who owns Leonardo images?

Its terms (updated 19 January 2026) say paid subscribers own the intellectual property in content they create, to the extent the law allows, while Free subscribers' output vests in Leonardo. Information, not legal advice. Check the live terms.

Does Leonardo have an API?

Yes. Its pricing page lists a pay-as-you-go API with credit that does not expire, and a custom tier. Higgsfield has a separate prepaid API too; see API options.

Can Leonardo make video?

Yes, in a limited way. Ultimate adds some listed video models, and frontier video models use tokens. For a wide video model list and film tools, see Higgsfield Cinema Studio.

Which has the cheaper team plan?

On seat price, Leonardo Team Starter is $72 a month for three seats. Higgsfield Team is from $65 per seat on annual billing. Compare total cost for your own output, not seat price alone. See Higgsfield pricing.

What does unlimited relaxed mean on Leonardo?

On the vendor page, relaxed generation is unlimited only for listed models on the right plan, and the pace may slow when demand is high. Check the model list for your plan.

Does Higgsfield train on my content?

Higgsfield may train on content except under Enterprise agreements, per its plan comparison and terms. Ask any tool you use for client work the same question in writing.
