Planable alternatives for agencies

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 5 min read

Short answer: The main Planable alternatives are Gain for agencies that need heavier, multi-client approval workflows, Pallyy for the cheapest per-client pricing, Loomly for agencies that want a built-in AI assistant alongside approvals, Later for teams already invested in its scheduling and analytics, and Hootsuite for larger teams that need broader social management than approvals alone. Planable charges $33 a workspace a month on its Basic plan, capped at 60 posts and 4 social pages, so most agencies comparing alternatives are either hitting that cap or need the approval workflow to cover more than social media.

Planable handles social approvals well, but you manage ads, SEO and content for clients too, and you want to know what covers all of it in one place instead of bolting on more single-purpose tools.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

Why do agencies look for a Planable alternative?

Planable is a social media collaboration platform built around a visual feed, calendar and approval workflow, letting a team draft posts and get client sign-off before anything goes live. It's a genuinely good tool for exactly that job, and the reasons agencies look elsewhere tend to be specific.

  • It only covers social content: Planable's approval workflow is built for social posts. It doesn't touch ad creative sign-off, SEO deliverables, blog drafts, or anything else a multi-service agency routes past a client.
  • Plan caps bite at scale: Basic is $33 a workspace a month for 60 posts and 4 social pages. Once an agency runs several clients with more pages or a higher posting cadence, it needs Pro at $49 a workspace, and analytics and inbox features are separate add-ons on top of that.
  • Each client is its own workspace cost: Pricing is per workspace, so a growing client roster multiplies the bill in a way that's easy to lose track of.

None of this makes Planable a weak product for social-only approvals. It's a question of whether a client relationship only ever needs social sign-off, or whether approvals for ads, content and reports should live in the same place. For inbox and reporting needs too, see social media agency software beyond a scheduler.

What are the best Planable alternatives?

Blur Studio (best value)

A ready-built, well-tested core with a different pricing model: no per-seat fees, and it covers almost all the features you'd actually need, usually working out to the best value for money. On top of that, Blur Studio builds owned customizations, meaning you can ask for it to be modified to your exact specifications, and you own those modifications outright. • Best for: Businesses that need software that works without barriers, no unnecessary fees and options to customize it to their needs.

Gain

Gain is a content approval platform built for agencies managing multiple clients, routing social posts, files and documents through structured review before publishing across nine social networks. Its Starter plan is $99 a month for 3 team members and 6 workspaces with 15 GB storage. Agency is $199 a month for 6 team members and 12 workspaces with white-label branding and PDF reports. Agency Premium is $399 a month for 20 team members and 30 workspaces.

  • Best for: Agencies that need a dedicated approval layer across many client workspaces and are willing to pay more for white-labeling and PDF audit reports.

Pallyy

Pallyy is a social media management platform that schedules posts, runs a content calendar and includes approval workflows, priced per "social set" rather than per workspace. Pro is $25 a month for one social set, with extra sets at $10 a month each. Agency is $99 a month for 10 social sets and 3 users, with extra users at $10 a month each. Scale is $199 a month for 30 social sets and 10 users.

  • Best for: Agencies watching cost closely, since Pallyy's per-set add-on pricing is the cheapest way to scale client count among the options here.

Loomly

Loomly is a social media management platform combining scheduling, a built-in AI assistant, approval workflows and analytics in one tool. Its Starter plan is $49 a month billed annually (or $65 monthly) for 12 social accounts and 3 users. Beyond is $249 a month billed annually (or $332 monthly) for 60 accounts and unlimited users, adding custom branding and custom approval roles.

  • Best for: Agencies that want AI drafting help built into the same tool as approvals, without adding a separate AI writing subscription.

Later

Later is a social media scheduling and analytics platform that also supports team collaboration and client approval workflows on its higher tiers. Growth is $37.50 a month billed yearly for 2 social sets, 2 users and collaboration and approval features. Scale is $82.50 a month billed yearly for 6 social sets and 4 users, adding competitive benchmarking and Meta Ads analytics.

  • Best for: Agencies that want scheduling, analytics and approvals bundled together, and value Later's deeper per-post analytics over Planable's simpler feed view.

Hootsuite

Hootsuite is a social media management platform covering scheduling, a unified inbox, analytics and, on its higher tiers, content approval workflows and team performance reporting. Standard is $99 a user a month for 10 social accounts. Professional is $199 a user a month for unlimited accounts. Advanced, which adds approval workflows and message routing, is $399 a user a month.

  • Best for: Larger agencies that want social management, inbox and reporting in one platform, and can absorb its materially higher per-seat price.

Every tool on this list, including Planable, is still built around social content specifically. If your clients need sign-off on ad creative, SEO deliverables or anything beyond social, none of these actually solve that on their own, which is the real reason multi-service agencies end up looking past social-only tools entirely.

What covers approvals for more than social?

Agencies running ads, SEO, content and social for the same client usually end up routing approvals in one of two places: a dedicated client portal that holds every deliverable type in one thread, or their project management tool with a client-facing view bolted on. My guide to client portal software covers the dedicated-portal route, and agency client portal software goes deeper on what agencies specifically need from that kind of setup, including approvals that span more than one deliverable type.

How does Blur Studio approach agency approval workflows?

I start by mapping what actually needs client sign-off across your services, not just social. If a tool like Planable, Gain or one of the others above genuinely covers it, I'll tell you which one fits your client mix. If approvals for ads, content, SEO and social all need to live in one place tied to your actual client portal, I build that layer connected to your existing tools, and you keep every account in your name.

Need something completely custom?

Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes the honest answer is that none of those quite fit, and what you actually need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. Questions people ask

What's the cheapest Planable alternative?

Pallyy is the cheapest of the tools compared here, starting at $25 a month for one social set with approval workflows included, though its approval features are simpler than Planable's or Gain's.

Does Planable handle anything besides social media?

No. Planable's approval workflow and feed view are built specifically for social posts, so ad creative, SEO work and other deliverables need a separate approval path.

Is Gain better than Planable for agencies?

It depends on scale. Gain's multi-client workspace structure and file-and-document approvals suit agencies managing several clients at once, but it starts at $99 a month against Planable's $33, so it's a better fit once you need that extra structure.

Why would an agency use Later instead of Planable?

Later bundles scheduling, deeper analytics and approval workflows into one subscription, which can work out cheaper than paying for Planable plus a separate analytics tool.

Where should approvals for ads and SEO work live, if not in a social tool?

Most multi-service agencies route those through a client portal that holds every deliverable type, rather than a social-specific approval tool.

Roughly what does a custom approval setup cost?

As a broad reference, fixes and finishes start at around $1,500, and new builds start higher, always a fixed price agreed in writing before I start, never an hourly rate. My AI app cost guide explains what actually drives a quote up or down.
