Teamwork.com alternatives for agencies and client service teams
Short answer: The main Teamwork.com alternatives are Wrike, Basecamp, Asana, monday.com and Productive. Basecamp charges a flat monthly fee, so it often costs less for bigger teams. Wrike and Asana suit teams that run many projects with detailed plans. Productive is the closest match for agencies that track budgets and billable time. A custom tool fits teams whose client process no package handles well.
Teamwork Alternative is one option among several, and you want a fair, current comparison before you commit to any of them.
I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.
Why do people look for a Teamwork alternative?
The usual reasons are the cost per user and which features sit on which plan. Here is what Teamwork's own pricing page shows.
- Free plan: Free covers up to 5 users and 5 projects, with 100MB of storage.
- Basics: $9.99 a user a month, billed yearly, with a 3-user minimum. It adds Gantt charts, billable time tracking and up to 300 projects.
- Accelerate: $24.99 a user a month, billed yearly, with a 5-user minimum. This is where workload planning, time budgets, retainers and invoices from logged time start.
- Higher plans: Optimize and Enterprise have custom prices. Quotes, profit insights and resourcing by role sit on these plans.
- Billing: Teamwork says yearly billing saves 29%. Basics and Accelerate come with a 14-day free trial.
- AI: Teamwork AI is included in paid plans for an introductory period. Teamwork says usage-based AI credits are on the way.
So an agency of 10 on Accelerate pays about $250 a month on yearly billing. If it needs profit reports, it must ask for an Optimize quote. For an agency that uses budgets, retainers and invoicing every day, that can be fair value. A team that only tracks tasks may pay less elsewhere. As of October 2026, independently verified pricing: Teamwork itself runs free to $25.99 a user a month (Starter $13.99, Deliver $25.99). Monday.com Basic runs about $9 a seat a month annually with a 3-seat minimum, Asana Starter about $10.99 a user a month, and Wrike runs about $10 a user on Team and $25 on Business, both with a 5-seat minimum. Basecamp prices differently: Plus is $15 per employee a month with free client seats, and Pro Unlimited is a flat $299 a month billed annually regardless of headcount.
What is a good Wrike alternative?
Wrike's pricing page shows two points that push some teams to look around. Per-user costs add up as you grow, and the Business plan is sold yearly only. Asana is the closest match for detailed planning. monday.com has a lower entry price and flexible boards. Basecamp suits teams that want something simpler with one flat price.
What is a good Basecamp alternative?
Basecamp keeps things simple, so it may not fit if you need Gantt charts, workload views or budgets. Teamwork and Productive both suit client service teams that need budgets and billable time. Asana and Wrike suit teams that need detailed plans. On the other side, Basecamp's flat fee is hard to beat for a large team with simple needs.
Which Teamwork alternative should you pick?
- Pick Basecamp if: You want simple shared projects and a price that stays flat as you hire.
- Pick Wrike or Asana if: You run many projects and need detailed plans and reports.
- Pick monday.com if: You want to shape boards to your own process with lots of automation.
- Pick Productive if: You run an agency and care most about budgets, time and profit.
- Stay on Teamwork if: You use its billable time, retainers and invoicing features every week.
Before you switch, list the five things your team does every day in Teamwork. Then test those five things in the new tool during its free trial.
When does a custom tool make more sense?
For most teams, one of the tools above is the right answer. A custom tool starts to make sense when your team fits one of these cases.
- Your client process is unusual: You have your own steps for briefs, approvals or handovers that no tool fits.
- Your tools don't talk to each other: Your CRM, project tool, time tracker and accounts each hold part of the picture, and staff copy data between them.
- Your clients need their own view: You want a branded client portal where clients see progress and approve work.
- Per-user fees are high: You pay for many seats, but most people only log time or tick off tasks.
A custom tool can also sit beside the project tool you keep. For agencies, my guide to CRM for agencies covers the sales side. My guide on AI for marketing agencies shows where AI can save time.
How would Blur Studio approach a Teamwork replacement?
I start with how work moves from a signed deal to an invoice. I map each handover and each place where someone copies data. Often the right answer is a tool from this list with better setup. When a custom tool fits, I build the part that is unique to you and connect it to the tools you keep. I can add AI to draft status updates, sort requests or flag projects that are going over budget. Your agency keeps full ownership of the code and the accounts.
Need something completely custom?
Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes the honest answer is that none of those quite fit, and what you actually need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. How much does Teamwork.com cost?
As of October 2026, Teamwork Basics costs $9.99 a user a month billed yearly, with a 3-user minimum. Accelerate costs $24.99 a user a month billed yearly, with a 5-user minimum. Teamwork also has a free plan for up to 5 users.
Is Wrike better than Teamwork?
Wrike suits teams that need detailed plans across many projects. Teamwork suits agencies and client service teams that track billable time, budgets and retainers. Both have free plans and 14-day trials.
What is a good alternative to Basecamp?
Asana and Wrike suit teams that need detailed plans and Gantt charts. Teamwork and Productive suit agencies that need budgets and billable time.
When should an agency build its own project tool?
An agency should consider a custom tool when its client process is unusual or its tools don't connect. A custom tool also helps when clients need their own portal. Most agencies should start with a software subscription.
Which Teamwork alternative suits a small 3 to 5 person agency best?
Basecamp or Asana tend to fit smaller agencies best, since both are simple to run without a dedicated project-ops person. Teamwork and Wrike carry more setup overhead that pays off once you have more clients and more moving parts to track.
Do any of these tools include free client-facing seats like Teamwork does?
Basecamp does, clients get free access alongside paid employee seats, which is one of its real advantages for agencies that want clients inside the tool without paying for them. Check this specifically if client visibility matters to you, since it varies a lot between these tools.
Roughly what does this cost?
As a broad reference, fixes and finishes start at around $1,500, and new builds start higher, always a fixed price agreed in writing before I start, never an hourly rate. My AI app cost guide explains what actually drives a quote up or down.
Is my project too small for this?
No. Most of the owners I work with have no tech team at all, that is the whole point. If the smarter move is a cheap software subscription instead of custom software, I will tell you that on the first call, even though it means I do not get paid.
