Can AI write my quotes and estimates?

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 5 min read

Short answer: AI can draft the quote, but it cannot decide your price. Jobber, field service software for quotes, scheduling and invoices, says its AI can draft quotes from a chat or a spoken request on mobile. Other tools write job descriptions, read supplier bills or measure a house from phone photos. You still need your own price list and a person to check the total before it goes to the customer.

You want to know if AI can turn a job note or a photo into a quote you can send, and which tools actually do it today.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

If you want to know where AI would pay off in your own business first, the AI Strategy Sprint finds it in 3 days.

What can AI do with quotes today?

AI is good at the writing and the paperwork around a quote. It is weak at the number. Here is what is real, and what is not.

  • Drafting a quote from plain words. You say or type what the job is, and the tool builds line items.
  • Writing clear job descriptions so the customer understands what they are paying for.
  • Reading supplier bills so costs land on the right job.
  • Measuring from photos for exterior work such as siding and roofing.
  • Collecting the details first so the quote starts with complete information.

What it cannot do is know your labor cost, your supplier prices or your margin. If it guesses those, the quote will look polished and be wrong. That is the biggest risk, so keep a human check on every total.

What does Jobber AI do for estimating?

Jobber's AI page describes Jobber AI as a built-in business assistant on web and mobile chat, with voice on mobile. It says the assistant can draft quotes, suggest automations (which can also draft quotes and flag high-value jobs), and create marketing content. Voice lets you create quotes in the field without typing. A separate Rewrite tool polishes any client message in one click.

Jobber AI Receptionist, an AI that answers calls and texts, helps upstream. It takes the caller's details and turns a request into a work request for you to review, so you start a quote with the facts in hand. As of November 2026 Receptionist is a $29 a month add-on, and Jobber plans for one user billed annually are Core $29, Connect $99 and Grow $149 a month. Jobber's page does not give a draft-quote accuracy figure, so test it on five of your past jobs before you trust it.

A worked example

This example is made up, to show the flow. The prices are invented.

A plumber is told on the phone: "Replace a kitchen tap, the shut-off valve is seized, probably needs a new valve too." Voice or chat turns that into a draft with three lines: labor, tap supply, valve. The plumber checks it against the price list and sees the AI used a standard labor hour, but the seized valve usually takes longer. They add an hour, change the valve cost to the supplier's price, and send it. The draft saved typing. The plumber's knowledge made the number right.

How do I tie AI quotes into Jobber or Housecall Pro?

If your tool has AI built in, as Jobber does, use that first, because the draft lands inside the quote screen. If it does not, as Housecall Pro's AI Team page suggests, run a simple loop with a general AI assistant such as Claude:

  1. Paste in your price list, hourly rate and standard wording once.
  2. Paste the job notes or voice-note text for each job.
  3. Ask for line items using only your price list, and ask it to flag anything it had to assume.
  4. Check each flagged line and the total.
  5. Copy the lines into your estimate screen.

That is a few minutes per quote and costs nothing extra. If you do this often, an automation can do steps 2 to 5 for you. Read AI for trades for ideas, and my business process automation guide for the next step.

What should go in the price list you give the AI?

The AI is only as good as the list behind it. Keep one page with these items:

  • Your hourly labor rate, and a call-out fee if you charge one.
  • Your markup on materials, as a percent.
  • Your 10 to 20 most common jobs with a typical time and typical parts.
  • Rules for extras, such as after-hours work, access problems or disposal.
  • Standard wording for terms, such as how long the quote stands and what a deposit is.

Update it every quarter, or when a supplier raises prices. A stale list is the number one reason an AI draft looks right and is wrong. The same list also helps new staff, so it pays off twice.

Where a person still checks

  • The total. Always read it.
  • Hidden work. AI cannot see rot behind a wall.
  • Material prices. They change. Your price list must be current.
  • Customer data. Check your tool's data policy before pasting private details.

How I'd approach this

Start small. Take your five most common jobs and write the price list for them. Test one AI tool on last month's quotes and compare its draft with what you actually sent. If it gets within a few percent and flags its guesses, use it for drafts.

Do not start with the fanciest tool. Start with the quote that takes you the longest to write. Questions people ask

Does Jobber have AI estimating?

Jobber says Jobber AI can draft quotes by chat or by voice on mobile. Test it on past jobs before you rely on it. See Jobber pricing for the plans.

Can AI price a job from a photo?

For exterior work, apps like Hover measure a house from phone photos and build material lists. AI cannot see inside walls, so it cannot price hidden work.

Is AI-written quote accurate enough to send?

Treat it as a draft. It is only as good as the price list you give it, and you must check the total.

What is the cheapest way to try AI quoting?

Paste your price list and a job note into a general AI assistant and ask for line items. ServiceM8 also lets free-plan users try its AI Writing Helper 10 times a day.

Does Housecall Pro write quotes with AI?

Its AI Team page lists four assistants and none is a quote writer. See Housecall Pro AI for what each does.

Should AI send quotes to customers on its own?

I would not. Let it draft, and have a person approve every quote. A wrong number sent automatically costs more than the time saved.
