Electrical contractor software: how electricians pick job, quote and billing tools
Short answer: Electrical contractor software books service calls, builds quotes, dispatches electricians, tracks permits and change orders, and sends invoices. As of October 2026, Jobber Core costs $29 a month billed yearly, Housecall Pro Basic costs $59 a month billed yearly, Tradify starts from $47 a user a month and ServiceTitan quotes per technician. Service shops and project contractors need different features, so pick by the work you do most.
You're an electrician trying to work out which job and quoting software actually fits how electrical work gets billed and inspected.
I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.
What should electrical contractor software do?
- Booking and dispatch: Calls and web requests become jobs, and the right electrician gets sent based on skill and location.
- Quotes with options: You send good, better and best options, such as a basic panel swap or a panel plus whole-home surge protection.
- Price book: Standard prices for common jobs keep quotes the same from one electrician to the next.
- Change orders: When a customer adds lights halfway through a remodel, you get a signed approval and a new price.
- Permits and inspections: Each job shows whether the permit is pulled, when the inspection is booked and whether it passed.
- Photos and notes: Electricians save panel photos, load notes and before and after shots on the job.
- Progress invoicing: Larger jobs get billed in stages, with a deposit up front.
- Maintenance plans: Repeat visits for generators or commercial clients get booked and billed on a schedule.
- Job costing: You compare quoted labor and materials against what the job really cost.

Connect costs $99 a month on yearly billing for one user, and it also comes in sizes of 5, 10 and 15 users. Grow and Plus sit above that for larger teams. You can add users for $29 a month each. Jobber sells an AI Receptionist add-on for $29 a month.

Max costs $299 a month billed yearly or $329 monthly, for eight users, with each extra user at $35 a month. Its page lists CSR AI, which answers calls and books jobs at any hour, with no price shown. It also shows intro offers, such as Max at $99 a month for three months, without an end date.
If you are torn between these two, my Jobber vs Housecall Pro page compares them line by line.
Tradify
Tradify prices per user. Lite starts from $47 a user a month, Pro from $51 and Plus from $61. Pro adds deposit and progress invoicing, online quote acceptance, timesheets and subcontractor scheduling. Plus adds purchase orders, job service reports and AI tools that read supplier bills and write job descriptions. Tradify offers a 14-day free trial.
ServiceTitan
ServiceTitan does not list prices. Its page says pricing is per technician and shows three plans: Starter, Essentials and The Works. You click "Request Pricing" to get a quote. It suits larger electrical companies with call centers, memberships and big service teams. My ServiceTitan alternative page covers other options at that size.
Which software fits your electrical business?
- Solo electrician: Jobber Core or Housecall Pro Basic covers quotes, scheduling and invoices for one person at a low monthly cost.
- Service shop with a few vans: Look at Jobber Connect or Housecall Pro Essentials for dispatch, reminders and quote follow-ups.
- Project contractor: You need progress invoicing, change orders and job costing. Tradify Pro lists progress invoicing and subcontractor scheduling.
- Large service company: ServiceTitan is built for call centers and big teams. Ask for a quote and a trial with your own price book.
- Mix of service and new builds: Test how each tool handles a long project next to short calls on the same calendar.
For a wider view across trades, my guide to contractor software compares more options.
What should electricians check before they buy?
- Price at your real team size: Work out the cost for every electrician and office user. Per-user prices add up fast.
- Intro prices and offers: Several vendors show a lower price for the first months. Ask what you pay after that.
- Permit tracking: Many job tools have no permit field. Check whether you can add a custom field or status for it.
- Change order flow: Make sure customers can sign a change order on a phone, and that it updates the invoice.
- Accounting sync: Check that invoices and payments sync with your accounting software without double entry.
- Offline use: Basements and new builds often have no signal. Ask if the mobile app works offline.
- Data export: Ask if you can download customers, jobs, quotes and photos if you ever leave.
How can AI help electricians?
Answering calls when your team is on a ladder
Electricians miss calls all day. An AI receptionist can answer, ask what the problem is, flag an emergency such as a burning smell, and book the job. Jobber and Housecall Pro both sell or list one. My guide to an electrician answering service compares AI and human options and covers the call recording rules.
Writing quotes from photos and notes
An electrician takes photos of the panel and speaks a short note in the van. AI can turn that into a draft quote using your price book, with good, better and best options. The electrician checks it and sends it in minutes. That helps you quote while the customer is still keen.
Keeping permits and inspections on track
AI can read your job list each morning and flag jobs that are waiting on a permit or an inspection. It can then draft a text to the customer with the next date. That stops jobs from sitting idle because someone forgot a step.
When does custom software make sense for an electrical contractor?
Most electricians should buy one of the tools above. They cover the normal flow of quotes, jobs and invoices well. Custom software is worth pricing out when one of these fits.
- You do a lot of commercial or project work: You may need bid tracking, change orders, retainage and progress billing in ways a service tool does not handle.
- You run several teams across a wide area: Custom dispatch rules based on license type, skills and travel time can save hours each week.
- Per-user fees are high at your size: With many electricians and office staff, the yearly bill can pay for a system you own.
- Your tools do not connect: If you copy data between job software, a supplier portal, payroll and accounting, a custom layer can join them.
You do not have to replace everything. Many contractors keep their job software and add one custom piece, such as a permit tracker or an AI quote helper. My guide to field service management software covers the wider choice.
What mistakes do electrical contractors make with this software?
- Not tracking permit and inspection status inside the job record. A missed or forgotten inspection delays final payment and can hold up the whole job. Track it in the same system as the job, not a separate list.
- Underestimating the documentation an inspector will actually ask for. Photos, load calculations and panel schedules saved outside the job system get lost right when you need them fastest, at inspection time.
- Mixing small service calls and larger bid work in one undifferentiated pipeline. A $200 outlet repair and a $40,000 panel upgrade need different quoting and scheduling logic. Treating them the same slows both down.
How would Blur Studio approach an electrical contractor project?
I would start with one week of your real jobs. Which calls do you miss, where do quotes stall, and which steps get done on paper? If Jobber, Housecall Pro or another tool covers it, I will tell you to buy that tool. If you need more, I build the missing piece and connect it to the software you keep. That could be an AI receptionist tied to your calendar, a quote helper that uses your price book or a permit tracker. Your company owns the code and the accounts, and I keep it running after launch.
Questions people ask
What is the best software for a small electrical contractor?
For a small team, Jobber and Housecall Pro are common picks. As of October 2026, Jobber Core costs $29 a month billed yearly and Housecall Pro Basic costs $59 a month billed yearly, each for one user. Try both with a real job before you choose.
How much does ServiceTitan cost for electricians?
ServiceTitan does not publish prices as of October 2026. Its page says pricing is per technician, and you request a quote for its Starter, Essentials or The Works plans.
Can electrician software track permits?
Some tools let you add a custom field or job status for permits and inspections. Ask each vendor to show you how it works on a real job before you buy.
Can AI write electrical quotes?
AI can draft a quote from job photos, notes and your price book. An electrician should always check the scope, materials and code needs before the quote goes to the customer.
Does Jobber have an AI receptionist?
Yes, as of October 2026, Jobber sells an AI Receptionist add-on for $29 a month. Housecall Pro lists CSR AI, which answers calls and books jobs.
Can software help track which jobs need a permit?
Yes, several of the tools above let you flag a job as needing a permit and track its status, though you still need the discipline to flag it at the start, not after the work is already underway.
Roughly what does this cost?
As a broad reference, fixes and finishes start at around $1,500, and new builds start higher, always a fixed price agreed in writing before I start, never an hourly rate. My AI app cost guide explains what actually drives a quote up or down.
Is my business too small for this?
No. Most of the owners I work with have no tech team at all, that is the whole point. If the smarter move is a cheap software subscription instead of custom software, I will tell you that on the first call, even though it means I do not get paid.
