Higgsfield vs Sora: Sora has closed, here is what to use instead
Short answer: Sora was OpenAI's AI video generator. OpenAI's help page says the Sora web and app experiences closed on 26 April 2026, and the Sora API (the way software called it) closed on 24 September 2026. So there is no head-to-head with Higgsfield, a web platform that hosts many AI image and video models from different companies. Higgsfield's tool list, checked on 2 November 2026, does not show Sora. If you used Sora for client work, you need a replacement and a plan to protect your prompts and files. This page covers both.
If you searched for Higgsfield vs Sora, the useful fact comes first: you can no longer use Sora. The real question is what replaces it for your jobs.
I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.
Many pages that rank for this search still read as if Sora were a live option. It is not. Per OpenAI's help article "What to know about the Sora discontinuation", the Sora web and app experiences were discontinued on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API was discontinued on September 24, 2026. A news report from The Decoder, dated March 28, 2026, describes the same two-stage shutdown and says OpenAI had not yet decided on a final export window. HeyGen's Sora alternatives post, a competitor page, says OpenAI announced the shutdown on March 24, which I did not confirm on an OpenAI page. The announcement date and the closing dates are different, and some pages mix them up.
This page is a guide to replacing Sora. Higgsfield, a platform that sells access to many AI models from one login, is one option among several, and I say where others fit better. The facts here come from vendor pages, Higgsfield's terms and help center, and published reports that I label.

Sora is gone: the dates from OpenAI
- April 26, 2026: the Sora web and app experiences closed.
- September 24, 2026: the Sora API closed.
- Data: OpenAI's page says Sora data will be permanently deleted after the discontinuation and any final export window.
- Credits: OpenAI's page says purchased ChatGPT or Sora credits can still be used for Codex, OpenAI's coding tool.
Source: OpenAI help center, linked at the end of this page. Check it directly for any later change.
What that means if you used Sora for client work
Three things follow. Any workflow built on Sora has stopped working, so you need a replacement. Any file you did not export may be deleted or already gone. And if you promised a client a particular look, you now need to recreate it on another model, which will not be a perfect match.
This is a lesson about platform risk. A tool can disappear with a few months' notice. That is true of any AI service, including the ones recommended below.
What you may still be able to save
OpenAI's help page says you can export your Sora content at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset, and that it will email you before any final export window begins. I cannot tell whether it is still open for your account, and the page can change. Open OpenAI's help page first and follow what it says now. If you still have access to anything, save the finished videos, the prompts, the reference images and any notes on settings. If you have nothing left, rebuild your prompt library from old client briefs, emails and chat logs.
What jobs Sora did, and which tools cover them now
Do not look for a "Sora replacement". Look for a replacement for each job. Here is a starting map. These are candidates to test, not rankings.
| Job | Candidates to test | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Cinematic product reveal | Runway Gen-4.5, Google Veo 3.1, Kling, Seedance | Runway is an AI video company with its own models (Gen-4.5 is one) and editor. Veo is Google's video model. Kling and Seedance (from ByteDance) are video model families. Test the same prompt on two |
| Social hook clips, 5 to 10 seconds | Kling, Seedance, Wan, Hailuo (a video model from MiniMax) | Often reachable through a platform that hosts several |
| Ads from a product link | Higgsfield Marketing Studio (turns a product link into ads), other ad tools | See Higgsfield Marketing Studio |
| Step-by-step edits and short clips with sound | Gemini Omni Flash (Google's newer video model, in Flow), Veo 3.1 | Google's Flow help page lists Omni Flash clips up to 10 seconds with video editing and custom voices. Comparison pages call it the closest to Sora, but that is their opinion. See Higgsfield vs Veo and Flow |
| Presenter talking to camera | An avatar tool such as HeyGen (an AI presenter-video tool) | A cinematic video generator is the wrong tool for a presenter-led business video. HeyGen is a competitor-reported view, so test it |
| Editing footage you already shot | Runway (Aleph, its prompt-based video editor), Higgsfield Genjutsu (changes a character or object in a clip) | Different tools, different strengths |
| Stills for storyboards | Image models on a platform | See Higgsfield vs Midjourney |
Where Higgsfield fits, and how to check its model list yourself
Higgsfield hosts more than 150 model entries counting variants. Its tool list on November 2, 2026 included Seedance, Kling, Veo, Wan, Hailuo, Grok Video (xAI's video model) and others. Sora did not appear in that list. Higgsfield's website footer still linked "Sora 2" pages when it was checked, and some older reviews (for example Creatify's) say Higgsfield offers Sora 2. Do not rely on those. Since OpenAI closed the API, treat any page that lists Sora as available as out of date, and check the model picker inside your account before you buy anything.
Some facts that matter for a replacement:
- Higgsfield sells monthly plans with credits (a credit is a unit of spend). Plus is $59 a month or $47 a month billed annually for 1,200 credits. Ultra is $129 or $99 for 3,000 (vendor prices, November 2026, check the pricing page). See Higgsfield pricing explained.
- The free plan has 0 credits, a small set of models and a visible watermark. There is no trial period.
- Credit examples from the pricing page: a 5 second Kling 3.0 clip at 1080p is about 8 credits, and a 4 second Veo 3.1 clip is about 16 credits on Fast or about 40 on standard. Unlimited-model promotions can end quickly (the ones in Higgsfield's in-product plan data were marked to end on 3 November 2026), so do not plan around them.
- Higgsfield's terms say it can add, substitute, retire or remove models, provided the service stays substantially similar overall. The platform survives a single model leaving only because it hosts others, but the model you like can still go. If a change materially degrades a paid plan or ends a paid feature, the terms let you cancel the affected subscription for a pro-rata refund of prepaid, unused amounts.
- Subscription credits do not roll over, and top-up packs expire after 90 days. If a model leaves, unused credits are still on a clock.
Rights, in short: Higgsfield's Terms say it does not claim ownership of your inputs or outputs and does not restrict commercial use of outputs, but its pricing table marks commercial use as not included on the Free plan, so use a paid plan for client work. You must clear rights, brands and likenesses yourself. It may use your content to train its models, except for customers on an Enterprise Agreement. This is information, not legal advice; check local law and the platform's current rules. See Is Higgsfield safe and legit and What is Higgsfield.
Try Higgsfield with a discount
I use Higgsfield a lot and I love it, which is why I partnered with them to bring you a discount. Get started through this link and you can get up to 50% off for the first 3 hours after you log in. The size of the discount and the plans it covers can vary, so check the offer on screen.
Other replacements to test, and when they beat Higgsfield
- Runway if you want prompt-based editing of footage, its own Gen-4.5 model, or credit costs printed before you pay. See Higgsfield vs Runway.
- Google Flow or Veo direct if you already pay for a Google AI plan, or need Google's enterprise route. See Higgsfield vs Veo and Flow.
- Kling direct if most of your clips would use Kling. See Higgsfield vs Kling.
- An avatar tool if the job is a talking presenter. See ElevenLabs vs HeyGen vs Synthesia.
- Stock footage or a shoot if you need only a few clips. See AI video vs stock footage vs filming yourself.
Compare more in Higgsfield alternatives and the best AI video generators for agencies. Prices for other vendors change often. I do not quote them here, so check each pricing page.
Pages that still list Sora: how to spot out-of-date advice
- The page says Sora is "available" or shows a Sora sign-up button, with no date or no mention of the closure.
- The page tells you to use the Sora API, or lists Sora API prices.
- The page claims a platform "includes Sora 2" but does not show the model picker.
- A site offers "free Sora 2" with no login to OpenAI. Treat look-alike sites with suspicion. Only sign in on the official site of the vendor, and never type a password on a page you reached from an ad or a link in a message.
Be careful with unsourced numbers too. Some articles quote how much Sora cost to run or how many users it had. Those figures are not on OpenAI's page, so I leave them out. Pages also give conflicting reasons for the shutdown, with daily cost figures that differ by a factor of fifteen, and conflicting dates for when it was announced. Ignore any page that does not name its source.
A 7 day test plan to replace a Sora workflow
- Day 1. Collect 3 shots you made on Sora, or 3 you wish you had made. Save the prompts and any reference images.
- Day 2 to 4. Re-prompt each shot on two replacements. Three attempts maximum per shot per tool.
- Day 5. Run 5 ordinary brand prompts through each tool. Some vendors block routine commercial prompts, such as ones naming brands. Ask each vendor for its content policy.
- Day 6. Log credits and dollars per usable clip, and what the watermark and commercial-use rules say on the plan you tested.
- Day 7. Decide, and write down why.
Pass rule: 2 of 3 shots usable within 3 attempts, on a plan whose terms your client accepts. Fail rule: fewer than 2 usable, or the tool blocks ordinary brand prompts. If you want to test Higgsfield as one of the two, you can start with its free tier, then confirm the model you need is in the picker before you pay.
Protect your agency from the next shutdown
- Keep prompts, reference images, seeds (the number that makes a result repeatable, where a tool offers one), settings and final masters in your own storage, not only inside a tool.
- Export on a calendar, for example the first of each month.
- If software of yours called the Sora API, put one thin wrapper between your code and any video model, so swapping a model later means changing one place. Budget a month of overlap so you can compare new results against old ones before you switch clients over.
- Do not build a client retainer on one model. Keep at least one tested backup.
- Ask each vendor: what happens to my projects and credits if a model is removed?
- Write a short style sheet per client: colours, framing, mood, banned elements. It lets you rebuild a look on a new model.
Who should skip an AI video platform altogether
If you need two or three clips a year, or the video must show a real product accurately, a shoot or stock footage is safer. If the video is a presenter explaining something, an avatar tool or a recorded person is a better fit than a cinematic generator.
How I'd approach this
I would first confirm what you lost and what you still have. Then I would pick two candidates per job from the map above, run the test plan, and keep the one that gives the most usable clips for the least money, with a second tool tested as backup. If you want many models behind one login, a platform like Higgsfield is a reasonable one to test, but it is not the only answer.
Blur Studio builds the repeatable workflow, approval portal or shared asset library around these tools, so your prompts and masters live somewhere you control. If that would help, get in touch.
Questions people ask
Is Sora still available?
No. OpenAI's help page says the Sora web and app experiences closed on April 26, 2026, and the Sora API closed on September 24, 2026. Check OpenAI's page for any later update.
When did the Sora API shut down?
September 24, 2026, per OpenAI's help article. The app and web experience closed earlier, on April 26, 2026. A news report dated March 28, 2026 describes the two-stage plan, and a competitor's post says it was announced on March 24.
Can I still get my Sora videos?
OpenAI's help page says you can export at sora.chatgpt.com/sunset, and that Sora data will be permanently deleted after the discontinuation and any final export window. I cannot tell whether your export is still possible, so open OpenAI's help page and follow it now.
What is the best Sora alternative for ads?
It depends on the job. For ads from a product link, test Higgsfield Marketing Studio and other ad tools. For cinematic clips, test Runway, Google Veo or Kling. For a presenter, test an avatar tool. Run the 7 day test plan on your own prompts.
Does Higgsfield still have Sora 2?
Sora did not appear in Higgsfield's tool list when it was checked on November 2, 2026, even though some Higgsfield pages and older reviews still mention Sora 2. Treat it as unavailable, and check the model picker in your account before you pay.
Is there a free Sora alternative?
Some tools have free tiers, usually limited and watermarked. Higgsfield's free plan has 0 credits, a small set of models and a watermark, and Runway's pricing page shows 125 one-time credits. Beware look-alike sites that claim to offer free Sora. See free AI video generators: watermarks, limits and rights.
Why did OpenAI shut down Sora?
Pages give different reasons and cost figures, and I cannot source them to OpenAI, so I do not repeat them. What matters for you is the dates, your export options and a tested replacement, which this page covers.
What happens to my Sora credits?
OpenAI's help page says purchased ChatGPT or Sora credits can still be used for Codex. Read the page for the current terms and any refund details.
