Service Fusion alternatives: field service management software, side by side

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 6 min read

Short answer: The main Service Fusion alternatives are Jobber and Housecall Pro for small to mid-size crews that want a simpler app, ServiceM8 for the smallest teams that want to start free, Tradify for trades that run on Xero or QuickBooks, and ServiceTitan for larger HVAC, plumbing and electrical firms. Service Fusion's own flat fee runs $208 a month for the Starter plan with unlimited users as of October 2026, which is genuinely cheaper than per-seat pricing once a crew grows past a handful of people, so most owners who look for an alternative are reacting to reporting, mobile app or support complaints rather than price.

You're on Service Fusion and something about it, usually the reports, the mobile app or a billing surprise, is making you look elsewhere, and you want to know if the grass is actually greener or if the gap can be fixed without a move.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

What are the most common Service Fusion complaints?

Service Fusion carries a 4.3 rating from over 300 reviews on Capterra, and plenty of its reviewers praise the support staff. The complaints that repeat across reviews are worth knowing before you decide anything:

  • Reports: The single most frequent complaint. Reviewers say reports are hard to filter and cannot easily show things like job length or active maintenance plans.
  • Mobile app: Reviewers say the field app lacks desktop functions, and some report that invoices created on mobile do not sync until re-saved on desktop.
  • Support speed: Mixed. Some reviewers describe fast help, others describe issues that took over a month to resolve.
  • Billing surprises: A smaller number of reviewers report unexpected charges, including processing fees that continued after cancellation.

Your own problem may be none of these. Write down the two things that cost you the most time each week before you read any further, since that list decides whether switching is even the right question.

Is the problem Service Fusion, or a missing piece?

ProblemSwitch tools?Other answer
No job profit viewOnly if the tool genuinely lacks job costingJob costing is on Plus and above. A dashboard can join jobs and invoices instead
Reports don't filter wellMaybeRun custom reports to Excel, or build a report off the API on Pro
Mobile app lacks featuresYes, if techs can't do their workTest the new app with real jobs before you commit
Support too slowYes, if it's costing you jobsAsk for a named contact first

If the table says "other answer" for most of your problems, you probably don't need to leave. A missing report or a missing link between tools is a small build, not a six-week migration.

Blur Studio (best value)

A ready-built, well-tested core with a different pricing model: no per-seat fees, and it covers almost all the features you'd actually need, usually working out to the best value for money. On top of that, Blur Studio builds owned customizations, meaning you can ask for it to be modified to your exact specifications, and you own those modifications outright. • Best for: Businesses that need software that works without barriers, no unnecessary fees and options to customize it to their needs.

Jobber or Housecall Pro

These are the two closest alternatives in price and style for crews of 3 to 15 people. Jobber's Core plan runs $21 a month for the first 12 months on annual billing, then $29, for one user, with $29 for each extra user. Housecall Pro's Basic plan runs $59 a month (annual) for one user, rising to $299 for Max's eight users plus $35 per extra seat. Both charge more as your crew grows, which is the main thing Service Fusion's flat fee avoids, and both have reporting that reviewers describe as similarly limited, so a reporting complaint may follow you to either one. See my Jobber alternative guide and Housecall Pro alternative guide for the fuller comparisons.

ServiceM8

ServiceM8 has a genuine free plan for one user and 30 jobs a month, then paid plans from $29 to $349 a month by job volume, with unlimited users on every paid tier. At a small enough headcount, this beats Service Fusion's $208 flat fee outright. It is a lighter tool than Service Fusion once you need job costing, a customer portal or an open API.

Tradify

Tradify charges per user: $47 a month on its Lite plan, $51 on Pro, and $61 on Plus, all month to month with no long-term contract. It is a strong fit if your business already runs its books on Xero or QuickBooks, since both integrations are built in rather than bolted on. Per-user pricing means the math flips against Tradify once your crew passes roughly four or five people compared to Service Fusion's flat rate.

ServiceTitan

ServiceTitan sells by quote and prices per technician, typically $245 to $500 or more a month per tech, plus an implementation fee. It costs more and takes longer to set up, so it fits once you've genuinely outgrown mid-priced tools. See my dedicated ServiceTitan alternative guide.

How do I move my data out of Service Fusion?

Service Fusion doesn't advertise an export button on its pricing page, but the data is reachable through its reporting tools.

  1. Go to Reports, then Custom Reports.
  2. Run the Customer report with every available column added to the selected list, exported to Excel.
  3. Repeat for Equipment and Service Locations.
  4. Run Sales by Customer with the widest date range available, to capture job history.
  5. Run Sales by Product/Service for invoice line items.

If a report errors out, run it in one-year batches instead of all at once. Service Fusion's own Data Import wizard accepts customer data, service locations, and product and service lists on the way into a new tool, so a spreadsheet of those three is a normal starting point. Ask your new vendor exactly what it imports automatically, and keep a copy of the full job history file as your own record regardless.

When does a custom field service tool make sense?

For most trades businesses, one of the platforms above, or simply staying on Service Fusion and fixing the specific gap, is the right call. A custom build makes sense in a narrower set of cases.

  • Your reporting need is genuinely specific: A profit-per-job view, a scheduled owner report, or a customer status page that none of the platforms above build in, and that custom reports to Excel don't fully solve.
  • You want one system across several business lines: Field service plus a retail counter, a rental fleet or a manufacturing arm, all on one platform instead of several disconnected tools.
  • You've genuinely outgrown the category: If dispatch, billing and the mobile app itself don't work for your crew, that's a real reason to move platforms, and I'll tell you so rather than try to build around it.

My guide to field service management software goes deeper on this decision, and my guides to plumbing software and HVAC CRM cover trade-specific considerations.

How does Blur Studio approach field service software?

I start by understanding your actual dispatch and job workflow, what the office does every day, and where Service Fusion or any ready-made platform is genuinely falling short. Often that's a missing report, a missing link to another tool, or a customer-facing portal, in which case I build that layer around the tool you already have and your crew keeps using. You keep the code and every account in your name, and I keep it running after launch. If your honest list is about core features like dispatch or the mobile app itself, I'll tell you to move, and point you to the platform above that actually fits your headcount.

Need something completely custom?

Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes the honest answer is that none of those quite fit, and what you actually need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. Questions people ask

What is the best Service Fusion alternative?

It depends on crew size. Jobber and Housecall Pro suit small and mid-size crews and publish prices. ServiceM8 suits the smallest teams. ServiceTitan suits larger firms and sells by quote.

Is there a cheaper alternative to Service Fusion?

ServiceM8 has a free plan and paid plans from $29 a month, which is cheaper than Service Fusion's $208 flat fee for a very small team. At a larger headcount, Service Fusion's flat fee usually wins against per-seat competitors like Jobber or Tradify.

Why do people complain about Service Fusion billing?

Capterra reviewers report unexpected charges, including processing fees that continued after cancellation for at least one reviewer. Check your account's add-ons and ask Service Fusion for your card processing rate in writing before you decide anything.

Can I export my data from Service Fusion?

Yes, through Reports and Custom Reports. Run the Customer, Equipment and Service Locations reports to Excel, plus Sales by Customer and Sales by Product/Service for job and invoice history.

Can I fix Service Fusion's reporting without switching?

Often yes. Custom reports export to Excel on every plan, and the Pro plan includes open API access, which is enough for a developer to build a dashboard directly off your job and invoice data.

Roughly what does this cost?

As a broad reference, fixes and finishes start at around $1,500, and new builds start higher, always a fixed price agreed in writing before I start, never an hourly rate. My AI app cost guide explains what actually drives a quote up or down.

Is my project too small for this?

No. Most of the owners I work with have no tech team at all, that is the whole point. If the smarter move is a cheap software subscription instead of custom software, I will tell you that on the first call, even though it means I do not get paid.
