Bolt.new alternatives for when your tokens run out mid-project

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 6 min read

Short answer: When Bolt.new's monthly tokens run out before a project is finished, the most direct alternatives as of October 2026 are Lovable (Pro from $25 a month for 100 credits) and Base44 (Starter from $16 a month on annual billing), both chat-first web builders with a similar workflow to Bolt. Replit ($20 a month for Core) is the better choice if the project needs more backend flexibility than a template-shaped tool gives you, Emergent ($20 a month for Standard) if you also need a mobile version, and v0 ($30 a user a month) if the interface design itself is the priority. The fastest fix if you're mid-project is simply upgrading Bolt's own Pro plan ($25 a month, 10 million tokens with rollover), since switching tools usually means starting over.

Your tokens ran out in the middle of a real project on Bolt.new, and you want to know what to actually do next, upgrade, switch tools, or something else.

What happens when Bolt's tokens run out?

Bolt.new is an AI website and app builder you chat with in the browser, and its Free plan gives 1 million tokens a month with a 300,000 daily cap, and unused tokens don't roll over. For a real project, especially one with several rounds of fixes and new features, that allowance runs out faster than most people expect. When it does, you have two real options: upgrade Bolt itself, or move the project to a different tool.

Options when credits run out

Upgrade Bolt.new itself

Bolt's Pro plan is $25 a month for 10 million tokens, a 10x jump from Free, and it also removes Bolt's branding, adds a custom domain, and lets unused tokens roll over month to month. If the project is otherwise working well and the only problem is running out mid-month, this is almost always the fastest and cheapest fix. Switching tools mid-project usually means rebuilding from scratch, since none of these platforms let you import a project built in a competitor.

Before upgrading, check what actually burned through the tokens. If most of your usage went toward fixing the same bug repeatedly, more tokens just buys you more attempts at the same problem rather than solving it. A more capable AI model tier, which Bolt's Pro plan also includes access to, sometimes fixes a stubborn bug in one try that the free tier's model kept getting wrong across several attempts, which is a different reason to upgrade than simply running low on volume.

Lovable

Lovable is an AI software engineer you chat with to build and deploy a web app, and it's the closest direct peer to Bolt in how it works. Its Free plan gives 5 daily build credits capped at 30 a month, and Pro starts at $25 a month for 100 credits, scaling up to higher tiers (for example, 800 credits runs $200 a month) as your project grows.

Base44

Base44, owned by Wix, is a no-code AI platform that uses vibe coding, plain-language prompts, to build fully functional apps with a frontend, backend, database and authentication included. On annual billing, its Free plan gives 25 message credits and up to 5 apps, and Starter is $16 a month for 100 message credits, the cheapest real paid entry point in this comparison.

Replit

Replit is a broader AI platform for building, launching and growing software, not just a fast prototype tool. Its Free plan allows up to 30 hours of chat-based building and 60 projects. Core is $20 a month ($18 annually) with $20 of model credit included, and it's the better pick if Bolt was already struggling with a piece of custom logic rather than just running out of tokens. Replit's broader workspace, with a visible file tree and terminal alongside its chat assistant, tends to handle an unusual workflow step more reliably than a purely chat-first tool, at the cost of a slightly steeper learning curve for someone who's never seen a development environment before. Non-coders can see more in Replit alternatives.

Emergent

Emergent is an AI platform that builds production-ready web and mobile apps through chat, with AI agents handling the design, code and deployment. Free gives 10 monthly credits, and Standard is $20 a month ($17 annually) for 100 monthly credits plus private hosting and GitHub integration. Emergent is worth a look specifically if the project needs a mobile version alongside the web one. A side-by-side view is in Emergent vs Bolt vs v0 vs Lovable vs Replit.

v0

v0 is Vercel's AI tool for designing and building web interfaces, leaning harder into visual polish than Bolt does. Free allows 7 messages a day, and Plus is $30 a user a month with $30 of included credit plus a small daily grant. v0 is the right call if the interface itself, not the backend, is what needs the most work.

A quick way to decide without overthinking it

Ask yourself one question first: was Bolt actually working well before the tokens ran out? If yes, upgrading Bolt itself is almost always the right move, since rebuilding elsewhere costs you more time than the $25 upgrade costs in money. If the project was already fighting you on something, a stubborn bug, a feature Bolt kept misunderstanding, that's a better signal to try a different tool than the token count alone, since a fresh tool with a different approach to the same problem sometimes succeeds where more tokens on the same tool would have just repeated the same mistake.

Cost comparison

OptionEntry paid priceWhat you get
Bolt.new Pro$25/mo10M tokens, rollover, custom domain
Lovable Pro$25/mo100 credits
Base44 Starter$16/mo (annual)100 message credits, 2,000 integration credits
Replit Core$20/mo ($18 annual)$20 of model credit
Emergent Standard$20/mo ($17 annual)100 monthly credits, private hosting
v0 Plus$30/user/mo$30 included credit + daily grant

If your project is otherwise fine and the only issue is the token ceiling, staying on Bolt's Pro plan is the cheapest real fix. If Bolt was also struggling with the actual build, starting fresh on Replit or Base44 is often worth the rebuild.

A worked example: a booking form that outgrew Bolt's free tier

A small events business used Bolt.new to build a client booking form with date selection and automatic email confirmation. The first version came together quickly on the free tier, but three rounds of fixing a timezone bug in the confirmation emails burned through most of the month's tokens before the form was actually usable. Rather than switching tools immediately, the owner checked what had actually consumed the tokens, mostly repeated attempts at the same timezone fix, and upgraded to Bolt's Pro plan for one month specifically to get a more capable model tier on that one stubborn bug. It resolved on the first new attempt. The lesson that generalizes: a token shortage caused by genuine project size calls for either an upgrade or a different tool, but a token shortage caused by the same bug eating attempts repeatedly is usually better solved by a better model tier than by starting over somewhere else. The wider path is in how to go from idea to working app without a developer.

Which pick actually fits

Stay on Bolt and upgrade if the work itself was going well. Move to Lovable or Base44 for a similar chat-first experience at a comparable or lower price. Move to Replit if the project needed logic Bolt genuinely couldn't handle. Move to Emergent if mobile matters. Move to v0 if the interface was the weak point.

Whatever you decide, write down the exact prompt that ran you out of tokens before you move on. If you do switch tools, that record tells you whether the new platform handles the same request more efficiently, which is useful to know before you commit a full month's subscription to finding out the hard way. Most of these tools offer a free tier for exactly this kind of test, so try the same prompt there before paying for a full subscription on a new platform.

Need something completely custom?

Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes the honest answer is that none of those quite fit, and what you actually need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. Questions people ask

Is it cheaper to upgrade Bolt or switch tools?

Upgrading is almost always cheaper and faster if the project itself was going well, since none of these tools let you import a half-built project from a competitor. Switching means rebuilding from scratch.

Do Bolt's tokens roll over on the free plan?

No. Bolt's Free plan tokens reset each month without carrying over. Rollover only starts on the Pro plan at $25 a month.

What's the cheapest real alternative to Bolt.new?

Base44's Starter plan at $16 a month (annual billing) is currently the cheapest paid entry point among the real alternatives covered here.

Why would I pick Replit over just upgrading Bolt?

If Bolt was already struggling with a specific piece of custom logic, not just running low on tokens, Replit's broader platform tends to handle that kind of complexity better than staying on a template-shaped tool.

Can I export my Bolt project if I decide to switch?

Check Bolt's current export options directly before committing, since what's exportable can change and isn't guaranteed to carry over cleanly into a different tool.

Roughly what does a custom build cost?

As a broad reference, fixes and finishes start at around $1,500, and new builds start higher, always a fixed price agreed in writing before I start, never an hourly rate. My AI app cost guide explains what actually drives a quote up or down.

Is my project too small for this?

No. Most of the owners I work with have no tech team at all, that is the whole point. If one of the tools above genuinely gets you where you need to go, I will tell you that on the first call, even though it means I do not get paid.
