ServiceM8 alternatives: what to switch to, and what it costs
Short answer: ServiceM8 prices by job volume rather than by user, running from free for 30 jobs a month up to $349 a month for 1,500 or more jobs, with unlimited users on every paid plan. If you're outgrowing it, verified October 2026 alternatives include Tradify from $47 a user a month, Jobber's Core plan from $29 a month on annual billing (or $49 with no commitment) plus $29 per extra user, Housecall Pro from $59, Service Fusion at a flat $208 or more with unlimited users, AroFlo from AUD $80 a user, and quote-only Fergus and Simpro. Before you move, check whether ServiceM8's own API or add-on SDK can close the gap instead.
You've hit a ceiling on ServiceM8, whether that's job volume, team size, or a feature stuck behind a higher plan, and want to know what a genuine step up actually costs.
I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.
How much does ServiceM8 cost?
ServiceM8 prices by how many jobs you run each month, not by how many people are on your team. Every paid plan includes unlimited users, which is unusual in field service software: most competitors charge per seat instead.
| Plan | Price a month | Jobs a month | Users |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 30 | 1 |
| Starter | $29 | 50 | Unlimited |
| Growing | $79 | 150 | Unlimited |
| Premium | $149 | 500 | Unlimited |
| Premium Plus | $349 | 1,500 or more | Unlimited |
Premium Plus charges $0.20 for each job above 1,500 a month. The Free plan charges $0.10 a text message, while every paid plan includes texting at no extra charge. ServiceM8 Phone, a separate add-on for a business phone line inside the app, starts at $19 a month. Support is self-serve on the Free plan, and email and live chat on every paid plan. I re-checked every figure above directly against ServiceM8's own pricing page on 27 October 2026, and they match what the source material for this page reported, so nothing here needed correcting.
Features step up by plan rather than by user count: partial invoices unlock on Starter, asset management, forms and certificates, proposals and the Inbox unlock on Growing, and job costing, markup billing and the Knowledge feature unlock on Premium.
Why do owners outgrow ServiceM8?
ServiceM8 is built for small trade teams, and its own marketing frames the product around businesses from sole traders up to roughly 20 staff. The reasons owners start comparing alternatives tend to repeat.
- Job volume, not team size, drives the bill: a crew running more than 500 jobs a month passes Premium and lands on Premium Plus at $349, with a per-job fee kicking in above 1,500.
- A soft ceiling on team size: ServiceM8 positions itself for businesses up to about 20 staff. Past that, most owners start looking for a platform built for a bigger operation.
- Features gated by plan: job costing, probably the single most requested feature from a growing business, sits behind the $149 Premium plan. Forms and certificates need at least Growing, at $79.
- A reporting ceiling: ServiceM8's pricing page doesn't list a dedicated reporting tier, so ask directly on a demo call what you can actually see across jobs, crews and customers before you assume it covers what you need.
None of this makes ServiceM8 a bad product. It's a genuinely well-built tool for the business it's designed for. The point is to name the exact gap, job volume, team size, or a specific missing feature, before you commit to a move that costs weeks of training and a full data transfer.

Blur Studio (best value)
A ready-built, well-tested core with a different pricing model: no per-seat fees, and it covers almost all the features you'd actually need, usually working out to the best value for money. On top of that, Blur Studio builds owned customizations, meaning you can ask for it to be modified to your exact specifications, and you own those modifications outright. Learn more over a quick call with me, Ranjit.
- Best for: Businesses that need software that works without barriers, no unnecessary fees and options to customize it to their needs.
Tradify
Tradify is the closest like-for-like swap, built for the same size of trade team, but it charges per user rather than by job volume, so it gets more expensive than ServiceM8 as you add people. As of October 2026, Lite is $47 a user a month, Pro is $51 and Plus is $61, verified directly on Tradify's own pricing page and unchanged from the source figures. Plus adds AI-assisted bill reading, AI-assisted quote drafting, purchase orders, bulk invoicing and reporting. UK firms comparing Tradify and Simpro can start with job management software UK, or see Joblogic alternatives and pricing.
- Best for: A small trade team that wants a near-identical quote-to-invoice flow to ServiceM8 and doesn't mind per-user pricing.
Fergus
Fergus lists Basic at $53 a month and Professional at $75, priced in New Zealand dollars, its home currency; the source material for this page didn't specify which currency, which I've corrected here. As of October 2026, a limited-time banner discounts both by 90 percent, down to roughly $5.30 and $7.50, so confirm the live price before you sign up, since a discount that steep is unlikely to hold. Professional adds GPS tracking, checklists, forms, purchase orders and Fergus's most advanced reporting. The pricing page still doesn't state how many users each plan includes, so get that in writing before you buy. It lists a Xero, QuickBooks and MYOB integration.
- Best for: Trades that want GPS tracking and deeper reporting and are comfortable confirming plan details directly with the vendor.
Jobber
Jobber suits US home service crews. As of October 2026, Jobber's Core plan runs $49 a month for one user with no commitment, or $29 a month on the standard annual rate. Jobber also runs shorter promotional rates for new signups from time to time, so confirm what you're actually quoted. Connect starts at $139 a month for one user ($99 annual), or $199 a month for a 5-user size ($149 annual), and adds QuickBooks Online sync. Grow starts at $199 a month for one user ($149 annual), or $299 a month at 5 users ($229 annual), and adds job costing; 10 and 15-user sizes are also available on Grow and Plus. Every plan adds $29 a month for each extra user beyond the size you pick. Custom reports only start on Plus. My separate Jobber alternatives guide covers the wider comparison in more depth.
- Best for: US home service crews already on QuickBooks Online who want a widely supported platform.
Housecall Pro
Housecall Pro has three plans. Basic is $59 a month paid annually ($79 billed monthly) for one user. Essentials is $149 a month paid annually ($189 monthly) and includes 5 users, adding routes and QuickBooks Online sync. Max is $299 a month paid annually ($329 monthly) and includes 8 users plus route optimization and open API access, with extra users at $35 a month each. Card processing starts at 2.59 percent. I verified every figure here directly on Housecall Pro's own pricing page.
- Best for: Teams that want routing, QuickBooks sync and API access bundled into clear, published tiers.
Service Fusion
Service Fusion charges a flat fee with unlimited users on every plan, a genuinely different model from the rest of this list. Starter is $208 a month paid annually ($245 monthly), Plus is $325 annually ($382 monthly) and includes job costing and inventory, and Pro is $533 annually ($627 monthly) and adds open API integration and a customer portal.
- Best for: Teams past a handful of users who want flat pricing instead of a per-seat or per-job bill.
AroFlo
AroFlo prices in Australian dollars, from AUD $80 a user a month with a three-user minimum, on a sliding scale that drops per seat as you add people. All plans include quoting, timesheets, scheduling, compliance forms, inventory, reporting and some AI features; GPS tracking and an AI bill scanner cost extra. It targets Australian and New Zealand trades specifically, so confirm support coverage for your region before you commit.
- Best for: Australian and New Zealand trade businesses that have outgrown a roughly 20-person platform.
Simpro
Simpro still publishes no price on its own site as of October 2026. Third-party reports put real-world costs around NZD $200 a user a month plus roughly NZD $50 for the mobile app, but treat that as an unverified estimate rather than a quote, since Simpro has never confirmed it publicly. Its base plan covers quoting, scheduling, inventory, invoicing, accounting and reporting, with digital forms, a maintenance planner, takeoffs and GPS sold as separate add-ons. It lists an open API and serves Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, the UK and the US. The Simpro alternatives page has the wider picture for firms that outgrow it.
- Best for: Firms from roughly five to 200 staff running complex, multi-phase jobs who can absorb a custom-quoted platform.
Is there a middle path between staying and switching?
Often there is. If ServiceM8 handles the daily job well and the real gap is one report, one form, or a link to another system, adding that single piece can cost far less than a full move, and your crew keeps using the app they already know.
ServiceM8's developer platform gives you three ways in: a private integration using its REST API and an API key, which suits a one-off build for a single company; a public integration using OAuth that reaches the REST and webhooks APIs; and an add-on SDK that adds buttons or menu items inside ServiceM8 itself, with code that either ServiceM8 or you host. ServiceM8 also lists an MCP server for connecting an account to AI tools, though the details sit in its own support material, so confirm exactly what it covers before you plan around it.
I use these to build things like a profit-per-job dashboard, a client portal, a quote follow-up flow, a branded form, or a weekly owner report, on top of ServiceM8 rather than instead of it. This can cost less than a full platform move, and it means your crew doesn't have to learn a new app.
How do I move my data if I switch?
Ask ServiceM8 support what export you get for clients, jobs, invoices and photos. Then ask the new vendor what it can import and what it charges for the work, in writing, including whether the import itself is free. Keep ServiceM8 running until the new tool has handled a full week of live jobs before you cancel anything.
How does Blur Studio approach ServiceM8 alternatives?
I start by understanding the exact gap, job volume, team size, a missing feature, or something ServiceM8 was never built to do, and whether it's really a platform problem or something a focused build on top of ServiceM8 could solve. If one of the platforms above genuinely fits your business better, I'll tell you, including which one makes sense for your job volume and team size. If the gap is narrower than a full switch, I build the specific piece you're missing, connected to ServiceM8's API, so your team keeps the tool they already know. You keep the code and every account in your name, and I keep it running after launch.
Need something completely custom?
Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes the honest answer is that none of those quite fit, and what you actually need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. Questions people ask
What is the best alternative to ServiceM8?
For a small trade team, Tradify is the closest like-for-like swap. Jobber and Housecall Pro suit US home service crews, Service Fusion suits larger teams that dislike per-seat fees, and AroFlo and Simpro suit bigger trade firms outside the US.
How much does ServiceM8 cost?
As of October 2026, ServiceM8 costs $0 for 30 jobs a month and one user. Paid plans are $29, $79, $149 and $349 a month, priced by jobs rather than users, with unlimited users on every paid tier.
What are the best Tradify alternatives?
Tradify alternatives include ServiceM8 for job-based pricing, Fergus, Jobber, Housecall Pro and Service Fusion. The right one depends on your crew size and whether you use Xero or QuickBooks.
Does Fergus have a free plan?
No. Fergus lists a 14-day free trial with no credit card required, then paid Basic and Professional plans, which are discounted 90 percent under a limited-time banner as of October 2026.
Can I add features to ServiceM8 without switching?
Yes. ServiceM8 offers a REST API, webhooks and an add-on SDK, and a developer can use them to build reports, forms and links to other tools without touching your core platform.
Roughly what does this cost?
As a broad reference, fixes and finishes start at around $1,500, and new builds start higher, always a fixed price agreed in writing before I start, never an hourly rate. My AI app cost guide explains what actually drives a quote up or down.
Is my project too small for this?
No. Most of the owners I work with have no tech team at all, that is the whole point. If the smarter move is a cheap software subscription instead of custom software, I will tell you that on the first call, even though it means I do not get paid.
