Is Simpro worth the step up from ServiceM8 or Tradify?

By Ranjit Bhinge, founder of Blur Studio · Updated · 5 min read

Short answer: Simpro, trade business software built for service work and larger projects, is worth the step up when you run multi-stage projects, track stock and job costs closely, or have a big office team. It publishes no prices, so you must ask for a quote. ServiceM8, a job app priced by how many jobs you create each month ($29 to $349 as of November 2026), and Tradify, a job app priced per user ($47 to $61 a user), cost far less and suit most small crews. If your problem is only reports, fix that inside your current tool first.

Ranjit Bhinge

You run jobs in ServiceM8 or Tradify and want to know if Simpro adds enough to justify the higher cost and the work of switching.

I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.

What are these tools?

Simpro is trade business software that covers quoting, scheduling, inventory, invoicing, accounting links and reporting in one system, with project management for bigger jobs. ServiceM8 is a job management app for small trade and service businesses: you create jobs, schedule staff, quote, invoice and take payment from a phone. Tradify is a similar job app for trades, with quoting, scheduling, timesheets and invoicing. AroFlo is job and project software for trade businesses, popular in Australia and New Zealand. ServiceTitan is large field service software built for bigger home service companies, with dispatch, call booking and payroll tools. Fergus is a New Zealand job management app for tradies, in the same class as Tradify.

How do the prices compare?

This is the biggest split. As of November 2026, only some of these tools show a price.

ToolWhat the vendor publishesHow you are charged
SimproNo prices. Base Plan plus add-ons, then "Request Pricing"Quote based on team size and add-ons. Monthly or annual billing
ServiceM8Free, then $29, $79, $149, $349 a month (USD)By jobs per month. Paid plans have unlimited users
TradifyLite $47, Pro $51, Plus $61 per user a month (USD). Custom by requestPer user
AroFloFrom AUD $80 per user a month, minimum 3 usersPer user, rate falls as users grow
ServiceTitanNo prices. Starter, Essentials and The Works are "Request Pricing"Per technician, after a sales call

Fergus lists plans on its pricing page, but check its currency and the extras (texts, certificates, card fees) before you compare it with a USD price.

What are ServiceM8's job limits?

ServiceM8 sells by job volume, not by person. Starter is $29 a month for 50 new jobs, Growing is $79 for 150, Premium is $149 for 500 and Premium Plus is $349 for 1,500 and up, with extra jobs at 20 cents each. Paid plans include unlimited users. The free plan allows one user and 30 jobs a month. That model is cheap for a crew of eight doing 150 jobs. It gets less cheap if you create many small jobs, because every job counts.

What does Simpro add?

Simpro's pricing page lists service repair jobs, project management, asset maintenance, work order management, asset tracking and testing, task management, real-time inventory and purchasing, and reporting and business intelligence in its Base Plan. Add-ons include Digital Forms, Maintenance Planner, Takeoffs (counting symbols on plans), Simtrac fleet tracking and SMS.

In plain terms, Simpro earns its price when you quote a job in stages, order stock against it, and want to see cost against budget as the job runs. ServiceM8 and Tradify handle jobs well, but they are job apps first. For a deeper look at the cost side, see my Simpro pricing guide.

A worked cost example

These crew and job numbers are made up to show the method. The prices are the published ones above.

Take a 6-person crew creating about 120 jobs a month. ServiceM8 Growing (150 jobs) is $79 a month. Tradify Pro at 6 users is 6 x $51 = $306 a month. AroFlo at its starting rate is 6 x AUD $80 = AUD $480 a month, and the per-user rate should drop with more users, so ask for the real figure. Simpro and ServiceTitan cannot be priced from their sites. Ask each for a written quote with every add-on on its own line.

The ServiceM8 gap is large, so the question is what the extra money buys. If the answer is "project tracking we do not use yet", the step up is not worth it.

Reports and the cost of switching

Many owners look at Simpro because they want better numbers. Check what you already have first. ServiceM8 lists productivity and revenue reports, a custom report builder and a Smart Report Helper where you type what you want to see. Tradify lists a Reporting feature on its Plus plan. Simpro's Base Plan includes reporting and business intelligence.

Switching has real costs: moving customers and job history, retraining staff, running two systems for a few weeks, and paid setup or training. Simpro gives no prices for setup or training on its pricing page, so ask for any such fees in writing. I would only switch for a missing capability, not for a report you can fix.

How do AroFlo, Fergus and ServiceTitan fit?

AroFlo is the closest rival to Simpro for project work. It lists project management with Gantt charts, supplier catalogues, inventory kits and stock control in all plans. Its pricing is public, which makes it easier to budget. Fergus sits with Tradify for smaller crews. ServiceTitan is aimed at larger home service companies and prices per technician after a call. If you are weighing it, my ServiceTitan alternatives guide covers cheaper options. For UK readers, see job management software in the UK, and for the wider field, field service management software.

Need something completely custom?

Everything above is a path to get it running quick and cheap. But sometimes none of these fit, and what you need is something custom that you own, built uniquely for your business from the ground up, with AI thoughtfully designed into the parts of it that your processes actually benefit from. An asset that grows in value, not a generic, one-size-fits-all boilerplate that's an expense with a lock-in. This is a complete bespoke build, and it's something I do very well. How I'd approach this

Start with the pain, not the product. Write down the three things that cost you time or money each week. If they are reports, quotes and chasing invoices, stay where you are and fix those. If they are staged projects, stock and cost against budget, ask Simpro and AroFlo for written quotes and a demo using one of your real jobs.

Count your jobs per month before you look at ServiceM8, because that number sets the plan. Count your users before you look at Tradify or AroFlo. Then compare the total cost over a year, including setup. Pick the cheapest tool that does the job you actually do today. Move up only when a missing feature is costing you more than the difference.

Questions people ask

Is Simpro better than ServiceM8?

Simpro does more, mainly project management, stock and job costing. ServiceM8 costs much less and fits most small crews. Better depends on whether you use the extra depth.

How much does Simpro cost compared with ServiceM8?

ServiceM8 publishes $29 to $349 a month as of November 2026. Simpro publishes no price and sells by quote, so request one. See my Simpro pricing guide.

Is Tradify cheaper than Simpro?

Tradify lists $47, $51 and $61 per user a month on its pricing page. Simpro gives no public price, so compare it with a written quote for the same team size.

How does Simpro compare with AroFlo?

Both handle service and project work. AroFlo shows a starting price (from AUD $80 per user a month, 3 user minimum). Simpro does not. Demo both with one real job.

Can I get better reports without switching?

Often, yes. ServiceM8 has a custom report builder and a Smart Report Helper, and Tradify lists reporting on Plus. Try those first, then see Simpro alternatives if you still want to leave.

Is ServiceTitan the same kind of tool?

It overlaps, but it is built for larger home service companies and priced per technician. Simpro is aimed more at trade contractors with projects.
