Is Housecall Pro worth it for my business?
Short answer: Housecall Pro, a software subscription that runs scheduling, estimates, invoices and payments for home service businesses, scores 4.3 out of 5 from 211 reviews on G2 (a software review site) as of November 2026. Owners praise ease of use, quick setup and live support. The common complaints are cost, features that sit behind higher plans or add-ons, and limited customization. It is worth it for a small crew that wants one simple app. It is a poorer fit if you need deep reports, custom workflows or lots of integrations on a low plan.
You are deciding whether Housecall Pro is worth paying for, and you want to hear the complaints along with the praise.
I'm Ranjit, and I run Blur Studio: 15+ years building software, 120 apps taken live, and clients who have gone on to raise $10M+. I build AI systems and processes that help businesses do a lot more with a lot less time. I also work differently from most of what else is out there, more on that further down this page. Say hello.
What does Housecall Pro do?
Housecall Pro is field service software for plumbers, HVAC crews, electricians, cleaners, landscapers and other trades that visit customers. In one app it covers online booking, scheduling and dispatch, estimates and invoices, card payments and consumer financing, a price book (your list of services and prices), job costing and review requests. It also has a mobile app for the crew. If you want the category explained first, read field service management software.
It sells three plans, as of November 2026 on its pricing page: Basic at $59 a month billed yearly for 1 user, Essentials at $149 for 5 users, and Max at $299 for 8 users plus $35 a month per extra user. Monthly billing costs more: $79, $189 and $329. I break these down in my Housecall Pro pricing guide.
What do the ratings say?
I use G2 here because it says its reviews are verified and it shows themes from many reviews at once. These are the scores for Housecall Pro and two rivals as of November 2026:
| Product | What it is | G2 rating |
|---|---|---|
| Housecall Pro | Field service software, strong on simple setup | 4.3 out of 5 (211 reviews) |
| Jobber | Field service software aimed at small crews | 4.6 out of 5 (533 reviews) |
| FieldPulse | Field service software, priced per seat through a custom quote | 4.7 out of 5 (393 reviews) |
Do not treat a gap of a few tenths as a verdict. Each product has a different mix of reviewers, and review counts differ. The useful part is the reasons people give, not the number.
What owners like
G2's summary of Housecall Pro reviews lists these strengths most often: ease of use, easy setup, customer support, a friendly interface and integrations. A few specifics from individual reviews:
- Estimates with options. One electrical contractor liked giving customers a choice of approaches or letting them pick items one by one, and liked having customer history, scheduling, estimates, invoices and payments in one place.
- Reaching a person. A sales director praised being able to talk to a real human at support. Housecall Pro lists live phone and chat support in every plan.
- Fast to learn. Basic includes online booking, scheduling and dispatch, estimates and invoicing, payments and financing, a price book, job costing and review management. A one-person shop can be running in a day.
The common complaints
These are the themes from G2's summary of Housecall Pro reviews. I add what the vendor's own pages say about each one.
1. Cost and add-ons
G2 lists "expensive" and says some reviewers find that paid add-ons or higher-priced plans make the features they want costly. The pricing page backs up the structure. Routes, flat-rate pricing, photo reports, employee GPS tracking, commissions and QuickBooks Online sync start at Essentials. Recurring service plans, route optimization and open API access start at Max. The AI phone answering tool, CSR AI, is a separate add-on with no public price. I explain it in Housecall Pro AI.
2. Features you thought were included
"Missing features" and "limited features" are the biggest complaint groups on G2. One reviewer wanted more flexible access to integrations without moving to a higher-priced plan. That matches the pricing page, where API access is a Max feature. My guides to Housecall Pro integrations and the Housecall Pro API show what you can connect and at which plan.
3. Limited customization
Reviewers say they cannot always shape the software to their own workflow, and some find certain menus take time to learn. If your business has odd steps, such as permits, multi-day jobs or inspection sign-offs, test those in the free trial before you commit.
4. QuickBooks sync problems
QuickBooks Online is accounting software many small businesses use for their books. Housecall Pro syncs with it from Essentials up. Its help center has a full article on the most common sync alerts, so plan for a process. When an alert appears you fix the cause in QuickBooks, then click "Sync again." The help center warns that dismissing an alert cannot be undone, and that editing a job can bring the error back. Your bookkeeper should know that rule. My piece on Housecall Pro reports not working covers the related reporting side.
5. Reporting depth
Basic reports come with the app, and Analyst AI, the built-in AI helper, lets you ask a question and get a report. If you want custom dashboards across jobs, marketing and cash flow, plan on exporting data and building your own. See my Housecall Pro reporting guide.
Who Housecall Pro fits
| Situation | Fit |
|---|---|
| Solo operator or 2 to 5 people, standard residential work | Strong. Basic or Essentials covers most needs. |
| You want financing offered to customers at checkout | Good. Consumer financing is in every plan. |
| You need an open API or custom connections | Only on Max. |
| You run a growing crew with complex workflows | Test hard before buying. Compare with Jobber and the Housecall Pro alternatives. |
| Large HVAC or plumbing shop | Look at ServiceTitan vs Housecall Pro. ServiceTitan is software built for bigger trade companies. |
How to test it before you pay
Reviews tell you about other people's businesses. A trial tells you about yours. Housecall Pro offers a 14-day free trial with full access to Max features and no credit card, per its pricing page. Use it this way:
- Enter 10 real services and prices into the price book.
- Book three real upcoming jobs, one of them a multi-visit job.
- Send yourself an estimate and an invoice, and pay it by card.
- If you use QuickBooks Online, connect it and push one invoice and one payment.
- Ask your technician to run a day in the mobile app and tell you what was slow.
- Write down every feature you wished for, then check which plan it needs.
How I'd approach this
I would not pick on the star rating alone. Count your real need: how many people log in, whether you use QuickBooks Online, and whether you want phone answering or reports beyond the basics. Price the plan that has all of that, not Basic. A $59 plan that forces a jump to $149 in month two is a $149 product.
If the trial shows gaps, there are two sensible paths. Switch to a tool that fits better, which my Jobber comparison helps with. Or keep Housecall Pro and fill the gap with a small automation, such as a weekly report pulled from your exports. Before you do either, read how to build a field service tool stack.
Questions people ask
Is Housecall Pro good for small businesses?
Yes, for most small crews. G2 reviewers rate it highly for ease of use, setup and support, and Basic costs $59 a month billed yearly as of November 2026. The trade-off is that features such as QuickBooks sync and routes need Essentials at $149.
What are the most common Housecall Pro complaints?
Cost, features locked behind higher plans or add-ons, limited customization and some hard-to-learn menus. Some owners also run into QuickBooks sync alerts that need fixing by hand. My pricing guide shows which features sit in which plan.
Is Housecall Pro good for contractors?
It suits residential trade contractors who need booking, estimates with options, invoices and card payments in one app. Contractors who need complex multi-step project tracking should test the trial first and compare it with Jobber.
Does Housecall Pro have a free trial?
Yes. Housecall Pro's pricing page lists a 14-day free trial with access to all Max plan features and no credit card needed. It also runs short promotional prices for new customers, so check the page on the day you sign up.
Does Housecall Pro work with QuickBooks?
It syncs with QuickBooks Online on the Essentials plan and above. Sync alerts happen and have a set fix process in the help center. For setup detail, see my Housecall Pro integrations guide.
What should I use if Housecall Pro does not fit?
Compare Jobber, Service Fusion (another field service software subscription), ServiceTitan (built for larger trade companies) and others in my Housecall Pro alternatives guide. Pick by team size, QuickBooks need and total monthly cost for your headcount.
